Most people don't know what a Solenodon is, and I don't blame them. They are little shrew-looking fuckers native to Cuba and Hispaniola, related to moles, shrews, and hedgehogs. Famously, the Solenodons have a venomous bite. This trait has survived in the Arapang Goblin, which are far more deserving of the title "goblin" than the Crooked-nosed possum. Arapang Goblins are huge weirdos, even for goblin standards. They hop around on two legs like ugly kangaroos, and, well, just look at them. Like the Solenodons they are descended from and the Slaðas they are related to, they have extended, flexible cartilaginous snouts; that's right, it's a giant nose, and it wiggles around. You can actually see in the above picture where the skull ends and the nose begins, right at the last tooth on the upper jaw. These giant noses are their greatest ally, as their eyesight is shit. While they also have exceptional hearing, the nose has a sort of stereoscopic range. They can detect the edges of a trail by wiggling the nose around, sampling odor an the third dimension. These gross weirdos use their gross noses to find even grosser food. The majority of the Arapang Goblins diet is invertebrates, like worms, grubs, and beetles. when they have sniffed out a suitable feeding spot, they use their long claws to dig up any buggos with ease. But the Arapang Goblin is too bold to stop there. They will also go to creeks, pong, and other small bodies of freshwater, and use those giant grabby claws to snatch up little fish and tadpoles. They are prolific omnivores, also regularly eating fungi and stealing bird and lizard eggs, but it's the smelly fruit that take the cake. Not satisfied until its diet is composed of only the most disgusting foods, the Arapang Goblin eats rotting and fermenting fruit that have fallen to the forest floor, making them valuable seed-dispensers and garbage disposals. Despite being huge wackos and eating the most revolting things, they are still pretty cool. They have a good thing going on, even if it's horrible to look at.
