Excellent composition! Looks like a male hoverfly -one of the wasp mimics. Male because the eyes touch each other at the top of the head -the females have a gap between their peepers.

I didn't know about the fact that the distance between the eyes differs between male and female.... Does this aply to all hoverflies, only to this specific species, or for all fly-like insects...?
I think this is a Hornet Mimic Hoverfly (Volucella zonaria)
