Description This house was one of a few two story houses in the Fort Rock valley. The story goes that Mr. Bodenheimer's neighbors thought that he was a bachelor and wondered why he was building such a "large" house. When it was completed in 1911, his wife and two children came over from the valley. She took one look at the house and the surrounding country-side of desert and sagebrush and announced "I don't care how nice a house you built, I'm not living in this country!" and went back to the valley. It was then sold to neighbors

Believe me, going inside that thing it is really well built and will probably last another 100 years. It is now sitting at the Fort Rock Museum about three miles from where it was built and being taken care of.

Amazing, thanks for sharing. Don't often get to hear of things like that. Nice bit of history, that could quite easily have been neglected.
