April 6,

Like two years before, Danger refused any help from the stablehands when she neared her due date. Not only did she refuse help, but she refused to enter the stall as well. And when you have a heavily pregnant, fire-tempered thoroughbred mare hell-bent not to do something... there's not much you can do to change her mind!

So rather than stress her out, we turned her loose in her own paddock with only trusty old Risa, our mustang mare, as company. Hands came and went, constantly watching her and making sure all was well in Danger's World, but a small fire in the woodshed during the wee early morning hours distracted most everyone.

Five hours later all was well and the genius on watch returned to find a gorgeous (though slightly cold) chestnut colt's head stuck between the slats of the fenceline and a frantic Dangereuse gnawing away at said offending wooden planks.

It was, to say the least, an interesting morning and the BCC staff haven't been bored since.

And thank God, our final Acute foal for the season finally looks like Dad. We were getting worried for a time there.

Name: Tantamount
Barn Name: Monty
Gender: Colt
Projected Height: 16.1hh
Color: Gray (chestnut base)
Eyes: brown
Markings: Stripe, back left sock
Build: A physical carbon copy of Acute, Monty has a nicely-boned body, elegant head, and not even the hint of Danger's Roman nose in sight.
Breed: Thoroughbred
Bloodlines: Acute x Dangereuse
Genes: ee/Aa/Gg
Temperment: Monty fancies himself the next Houdini. Unfortunately, he has not yet figured out that thinking before acting is a wise move, and thus often finds himself trapped in the most awkward of positions. Like, with your head caught between fence slats. Or your back feet buried in a watering can. Or your nose stuck to an old fisherman's hat by the hooks woven into the cloth. Other than his escape attempts, however, he is a solidly-tempered colt with his sire's calm personality and his dam's sharp focus.
Stable: Black Creek Crossing Stables

Art and Character (C) Me
Ref: A gorgeous Tiznow colt found on the FoalTrack forums.

We actually had this happen... sorta. We'd bought a mare off of an auction, simply because we were looking for something that my younger sisters could ride without fear of being bucked off, and the mare was bomb-proof. We'd had her for about 9 months when we realized that she was pregnant. O_O And we were ill prepared for a birth. When the mare laid down to give birth, she pushed the colt out, right underneath the slats of the fence. My husband had to cut the boards to get the colt free, and the colt carried a couple of scars on his side for the rest of his life. But what a situation!

oh yeah! He was a spunky little thing! We never knew what breed that sire was, and his dam was a draft cross (chestnut pinto *will get pictures up soon!*). He looked like a little Belgian, with a Roman nose to boot!
