your the first to make that good point!
the point of the stamp is not to say fan-art isn't good, but that original art is just as good!
It is a sad fact however, that even though a lot of people agree with us, there is discrepancy in publicity among art platforms between original creators and those that post art based off popular media. which completely hides the talents that use online platforms to develop their art itself and their art related careers.
Also the original stories I have read on DA have been some of the best I have ever read! your characters are you and your creativity, no one can steal them because no one is you! i'm glad to hear you have use diverse mediums as an artist, that's super cool :>

No, I meant if a publishing company wanted to see my manuscripts and saw the story was online first, the company may consider publishing, but First Rights are off the table. (I don't get to keep my characters. Also, most publishers won't publish a manuscript already on the Internet, anyway.)
Yeah, I've had pictures and journals stolen before.

I'm sorry to hear that :<
art theft is a bit of a problem on DA.

I agree with this. I hate that fan art gets more popularity with pageviews, kiribans, favorites, watchers, and comments. But I think original art needs to be more popular.Β

I can relate to this. I have two small folders consisting mostly of original art...and these got WAAAAAY fewer favorites, fewer views, and only a handful of comments as compared to my fanart.
Original works can be great too! People just need to take their time and look at them.Β

This is true, because I prefer original artΒ than fan art that constantly get favorites, comments, and page views. It gets pretty boring just seeing fan art of Dragon Ball or any other franchise when artist who make their own stories, characters, and artstyles are ignored.

totally! Some of my favourite characters and stories have been by original creators i find online! there is a world of characters out there outside of the select few people choose to draw and like online, that in many cases have a more interesting verity of designs, plot lines and background

Yeah I totally agree with this stamp. Before, I used to draw only fanart. I drew a tiny bit of original work but mostly fanart. They would get more favs and comments than my original works which really sucks because it seems that no one really cares about my original works.

So true. Nobody seems to give a shit about original art in this site.
I drew HTF fanart once and it received more favs and comments than my entire gallery put together... and it sucked. I mean, I don't care about 'fame' and all that crap, but it kinda pisses me off when everyone pays attention to fan-art and doesn't give two shits about those who actually have originality.

It mostly boils down to what grabs people's attention the most. If someone sees good fanart of something they're obsessed with, they'll give it instant attention. If the same person finds original art that is equally as good, they may not notice it because it's not from that one show, movie, or game that they are greatly attached to. This is bad news for someone who isn't into making fanart. You'll have to work extra hard to find ways to draw people's attention to your gallery.

This truly speaks from my heart.
IΒ΄m so tired of seeing always the same AoT(I like AoT but I refuse drawing fanart of it)-Sailor Moon-Naruto-MLP-whatever fanart at the front page,I donΒ΄t care if itΒ΄s good or not,itΒ΄s just boring to look at it.I stopped counting all the galleries with lots of crappily drawn fanart of flavour-of the-month anime which gets thousands of pageviews and in contrast a lot of very talented original artists are ignored. It drives me mad, really.
I admit I also did alittle fanart of a quite unpopular manga in the past but it never made me so happy than drawing my own characters. But it really drives me mad beng always beaten by some absolutely untalented fanartists only because they draw characters from a popular manga/anime/show.
DeviantArt should be renamed in DeviantFanArt,just my opinion.

Oc art: 2 or 3 comments
Sonic, mlp crossover fanart: 50 comments
That kind of stuff kind of pisses me off.. random person: Oh look fanart! *comment* orginal art? *leaves*
Me: why? -___-"
It kind of hurts. Actually.

your comment on this stamp and ones like it make me feel that this is an actual sitcchuation. i personally adore orginal art and characters more because thye tend to be more creative and inspire their makers and others to be more creative as well.
i also wish i coould favorite comments right now.....

It's really creative and great to have an oc. (as long as it isn't a rip off or a mary sue.) I understand why people love fanart but could you please respect the oc and the artist's creative mind? I hardly even draw fanart anymore. I don't want to be known as a mlp/spyro artist. I want to be known as a friendly, peaceful person who loves to create new worlds and characters.

I have people who fave almost everything I do but only say 'Nice - I like the (FAN ART) sketches here.' even when they're hidden in a bunch of other drawings. Quite irritating. Even when you point it out, they keep doing it.

I agree so much...I rarely draw fanart, let alone post it...but whenever I do post it, I get tons of faves and comments, even if it's shitty!
And then if one of my original works looks really good, I'll only get a few faves...it's like, what the hell? Sometimes I feel I should just keep my original art off of Deviantart because it seems pointless, know what I mean? The only thing that seems to get me watchers is fan art...argh.
Nice stamp. Love it.

Yeah, fanart does get attentions easily on here. I have done some fanart since I sometime randomly draw stuff, but in my gallery, most of my original stuff gets more attention then my fanart. So I am glad that people like my originals more than my fanart.

I love Fan Art especially when it's crossovers, they're so much fun and it's really great to see characters in other peoples styles, BUT my Beetle-Cord picture (Discord from MLP and Beetlejuice) picture I think turned out nice, it's got like 80 favs. Though, my Zombie Dragon picture took a lot longer, more effort, a great loss of sanity, 200 layers in photoshop and only has 24 favs...

cryskris [2012-07-09 21:05:47 +0000 UTC]
I would rather see Naruto or Twilight on the front page than more MLP: FiM. I don't mind fan art and yes, I adore original arts because you can find so much inspiration and beauty in something that your mind has never considered before whilst fan art doesn't always provide that same "magic". However, no. I don't get jealous for not being noticed (my main account is *seramity ) because I draw for me and friends. That's it. Too many people see deviantART as a popularity sight like Facebook, Tumblr or Twitter and it really makes me frown.

Thanks so much for this, I used to draw a lot of fan art (it was pretty bad) but then I stopped posting for a while to try and get better. I recently posted some original art, which I think is lot better quality then the old stuff I posted, but I've hardly gotten any feedback, kinda sucks :/

Thank you, so much for this.
I'm using it on my page as I type.
You see, I draw a lot of fanart, but I'm starting to bring my creations out a bit..
The thing I notice that gets me annoyed is the fact that all my fanart gets more compliments and likes than any of my original work. >>
Wtf? It pisses me off knowing that they decided to watch me, but only for fanart. My theory is if you watch someone it means that you should also care about what else they draw, especially if it's their own work!
God, they just don't understand how hard us artists try and get nothing.
