Description Oh damn... That'll be nice when finished I think!! >w<

The new texture is not finished, but this will come fast, I'm in holydays so I can work way more time on this project!

Guess what ? It's a good day to sleep was rendered with the old texture (that I actually never finished for the wings) and it looked no bad. I SWEAR I did not edit the character texture on It's a good day to sleep, I only added the background with Photoshop, that's all. A Bump Map changes loads of things..!)
For the new texture, loads of things are missing :First of all, the diffuse is not complete (spikes and claws have the same texture as the body, Eye lids not finished, etc..); the Reflectivity Map, the Bump Map and the Ambient Occlusion Map are not started yet.

Yep that's all! I can say that I'm REALLY happy with the current result! Here, you see the model on the viewport. Generally, the render improves a lot the looking of the texture, when it is configured, of course.

Dave is still working on Berk and Viking's stuff, but hey, that's going very well for the moment !

Yes ^^
The character can be animated, and that's what I'm currently doing.

gonna throw this into an engine like udk or unity or are you going to just animate with it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Thy-Vipe In reply to lonely-and [2014-06-17 13:54:28 +0000 UTC]

I am not going to share the model anywhere, I'll only use it for animation (and it is not adapted for UDK and unity, this is not a game model)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lonely-and In reply to Thy-Vipe [2014-06-17 14:14:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see. good model though! You know you can just export it as an fbx and load the texutres onto UDK, just a suggestion if you wanted to play around with your own night fury

Thy-Vipe In reply to lonely-and [2014-06-17 14:19:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
Yeah I know, but the rig is.. Kinda complex, it works with tons of algorithms and scripts, which are coded in MEL (exclusive Maya Language) so yeah... I'm gonna animate it in Maya

lonely-and In reply to Thy-Vipe [2014-06-17 20:02:48 +0000 UTC]

... im aware im an animation student so I know how to rig and all that

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Thy-Vipe In reply to lonely-and [2014-06-17 20:49:17 +0000 UTC]

I did not know that, sorry
That's nice
I personaly really like the riging, when your work can finally move, etc...
I'm also a "student" if I may say, but I am too young to go in an Animation school yet, so I learn by my own and with some tutorials on the internet

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lonely-and In reply to Thy-Vipe [2014-06-17 21:35:27 +0000 UTC]

I thought you wouldve noticed or assumed i understood 3D as well since i mentioned UDK and fbx file formats.
Self taught is good, glad you have the motivation. The topology on your night fury rig could do with a bit of cleaning up though, it will effect the mesh movement when you rig that as well. but great for a first model!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Thy-Vipe In reply to lonely-and [2014-06-17 21:43:44 +0000 UTC]

Actually I had to modify the meshing by reducing the number of divisions for the wrap deformer, because yeah.. The wrap deformer have limits, unfortunately :/
The model is not animated directly by the bones : The influences of the bones are connected to a low poly mesh, with separated dynamic membranes which animate the high poly, which has welded membranes.
But yeah you're probably right, in particular near from the start of the arms (1 tris per side) and the foots, though, here's how it was at first :

Well im always availavle to help out if ya want! im actually working on a personal project where i make my own island full of nigt furies and model everything myself. The island itself is a bit like skyrim but Yeah I wanted to try and make my own environment.
The biggest no no im not sure if you know or not is avoidind stars, endgons and tris. From what I can see the wings are fine but on the before/after pic i saw a whole load of tris which you should really try to hide in not so visible places if you cant get rid of them :/Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Thy-Vipe In reply to lonely-and [2014-06-18 00:00:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know about stars and n-gons (none on both models), I won't say that I'm a really advanced user, although I have way more than the basics, but concerning the tris, generally we learn this when we start working with 3D, that tris are not good on a mesh, but a really advanced user told me that it doesn't change much on the model, actually it depends of where they are, if it's in a tension zone, yeah, it is really annoying, otherwise, it's okay, for example on a arm if it's not on its middle and not at its start and end, it's okay, even if it's not really good.
On the images I posted you don't see the models in details, I can assure you that it's clean on the arms and the wings, and the body in general, but there's some tris on the legs (not in a tension zone, though) and 2 tris on the back, not in a tension zone too, for the high poly mesh. For the low poly, there's 4 annoying tris on the back, that are fixed now (Did it after having seen your comment, working with references is really great for that, because you can change the meshing without having to redo the whole skinning ).

But, thanks for the critique!

And also, good luck for your project, it sounds cool!
Quick question : Which software are you using?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lonely-and In reply to Thy-Vipe [2014-06-18 02:45:54 +0000 UTC]

okay good at least ypu fixed it up xD

And thanks! i'll need all the luck, still unsure if im gonna try and throw it into udk to play around myself or just animate.
Oh, and i use maya 2014 for modelling, mudbox and zbrush for sculpting and surfacing. Occasionally nDo and dDo for texture details and normals.
