And if you think we can't
We'll always find a way
That's why the people of this world
Believe in

what the fuck why not just keep it the same name? actual gems dont have "male" versions of their namesΒ

X-factor109 In reply to PrincessPatchie [2016-01-09 03:38:23 +0000 UTC]
True. But, like the humanoid constructs that make up their physical form, the names of the gemstones at the core of their existence are often portrayed as female/feminine. (No implied sexism intended, but people named after gemstones are usually women.) In this alternate universe, the genders are swamped. Meaning that gems will be portrayed as mail/masculine.

PrincessPatchie In reply to X-factor109 [2016-01-09 04:15:02 +0000 UTC]
The fact that women are named after gemstones and the characters are portrayed feminine has nothing to do with it. The Gems aren't named after gems because they're feminine, they're named afer gemstones BECAUSE they represent that gemstone. The genderbent characters are representing the same idea and gemstone of the original. The fact that the Gems are portrayed as masculine is fine. What isn't fine, is making up names because of their gender, when they already have names that are the basis of what they stand for, which is the gemstone itself.
by the way, its *male, not male.

I know that the Gems are named after the gemstones at the core of their existence! What I'm saying is that this is why their physical forms are female in appearance. Because gemstones are often associated with women. Beauty, purity, preciousness, etc.: these are all words used to describe jewelry and femininity as well as compare the two. That's why I think that their names, in the case of gender blending, should undergo changes similar to that of certain words that are inherently masculine/feminine. [i.e. prince to princess, priest to priestess, bachelor two bachelorette, etc. (I can only think of masculine to feminine conversions at the moment, but you get my point)] After all, the gems themselves, like the jewels that are the center of their very being, are mono-gender (or asexual). But, their names, like their energy/matter projection humanoid constructs, are portrayed as feminine.
Why are replying to my comments so aggressively, anyways? I'm merely stating my ideas and opinions. You don't have to agree with them. You're free to voice your disagreements to me. But, from my perspective, you seem to be trying to convince me that what I said is wrong and/or that I'm wrong for thinking it. Are you trying to force your ideas and opinions on me? Or are you deliberately trying to start the flame war?

You're right, except for the fact that gemstones have no "male" version of their names, unlike prince or princess/
I'm replying because i am merely stating my argument, since you replied first.

It really doesnt matter what the name means, because gemstones and rocks in real life do not have a gender, therefore that name can apply to either gender

X-factor109 In reply to TiaBlackRaven [2015-09-22 18:53:29 +0000 UTC]
I don't know. If you ask me, it sounds more like a replacement for "Granite" (a type of rock) than it does for "Garnet." I was thinking about something like Garret or Geralt. How does that sound? Or do you think that Garnet could be unisex?
π: 0 β©: 1
TiaBlackRaven In reply to X-factor109 [2015-09-23 11:40:28 +0000 UTC]
It really like the name Garrett, however, is already a "human name". It must invent a name that is similar to the stone garnet or find a stone that has a similar appearance.
Perhaps it is best to leave GarnetΒ

Okay, then. I don't have much at the moment. But, I do have a few ideas: 1)While the main characters will still be adolescents, for innovation's sake, I'll just refer to them as juveniles instead of teenagers. 2)Since gems are inorganic and artificially created, they'll be regarded as synthetics instead of mutants. 3)Because they live in isolation and seem to be idealistically spiritual, I'm making them like Shaolin monks instead of ninjas. 4)Also, they're Crystal gems and not turtles.
So, for the title: Juvi Syntho Shaolin Crystals
aka, Jedi in a Gemstone!

1. Stevie wouldve been a better name? i think
2. Genderbends are transphobic and they can be sexist too
3. the gems have no gender anyway
4. y does steven (stacy?) have boobs he(she???) is like 8

1.Stevie in fact it is a good proposal. ^-^
2.Perhaps you're taking a little too seriously do not you think?
3.I know they do not have any gender,Β but, hey, it was to see. Besides, I am not the first who made a genderbend on them. However, by, each one can draw what they want ... even a cow riding a rocket into the space and dancing the Brack-dance!
The beauty of the draw that does not have limits of imagination.
4.Be, this is the version I made Stacy / Steven, for that I also added a bracelet. You you're not exaggerating a bit?
ps.Man, drawing is fun, you can create things that would be impossible in reality, it is useless to be too much to think that it is physically impossible or unlikely at the end of the plot. For example: The fan-shipping Elsa and Jack Frost would be impossible, being in different worlds and times, but many people do like to see them take to get that pair although it is impossible to exist. Do not give a limit to your imagination and have fun creating!

If you would like i could explain why its transphobic:
it supports the idea that long hair + boobs and stuff makes u a girl and having none of that stuff makes u a guy

Iru-The-Mad-Hatter In reply to xXamy-r0s3Xx [2015-08-27 11:27:07 +0000 UTC]
According to promotional stuff related to the series, Steven is actually 11-12, so his genderbent version can actually have those "developing boobs" that shock you so much. Besides, Steven has a "fluctuating age" according to the age he think he "deserves", so anyone can draw him the age they want and still keep it canon.
Anyway, other 2 points:
1) Yes, boobs MAKE you a woman, biologically speaking! If you bring it to the psychological side of the gender you feel you belong to, well this is not the place to discuss about it, and this is "Steven Universe (biological) genderbent", not "What if Steven Universe & co felt like they're another gender".
2) Go look at another picture from Tia, "Adventure Time Family Picture (genderbent)", what do you see? Yes, a man with long hair. Your critic is pointless, because what do you care if Tia loves women with long hair, men with short hair, man wearing blue/pink/purole or women playing football/cooking? She draws what she feels, what she likes, it's not like she thinks "hey let's make it the manliest of the muscular manly-men!", she just thinks "yeah I like how he/she turned out", the rest doesn't count.
That's it. So, you still need to go on with your pointless crusade against genderbent, or you're gonna go back to your creepy Paint-drawn pregnant Sonic?
