you abstractions are the first thing that catches my attention since I came back to dA. I agree with previous comments that it is possible (and inevitable!) for an artist to create with whatever materials are available at the moment. you said it was an improvised drawing... in my opinion those are the most sincere at times, your mind just flows freely onto the paper without planning ahead - the current line defines the next one. and this turned out beautifully, it reminds me of seaweed which has come alive, tangling itself on dance.

honestly, I can't notice a lot of difference though, if you can work with ballpoint and get results such as yours then you can also work well with cheaper materials.
As always it is beautiful, and the eyes are gorgeous, I am glad you had a great time there
