You clearly have the idea of shading and what not. So props for that. But let me address some tips for you if you don't mind.

First and foremost, lighting. It appears that you chose the lighting to come from the left, or from Shy's right. It does give it that 3-D look, but it can be "enhanced". Shadows, they're aren't always gray, black, or anything of that nature. I'm not sure if you used those colors here and just lowered the opacity to give the effect. Which that method works, but it won't always deliver when needed regarding lighting and especially surroundings.

The following is very important and will make your drawings come even more alive:

If your highlight is warm color based (which is mostly the case) then your shadows will be cold based. If your highlights are warm then your shadows will be cold based. Simple like that. Blending warm and cold makes stuff pop more. This is a very important rule. Another thing, "reflective lighting". NOTE: reflective lighting ONLY exist in shadows!

For example, look at the left Shy. You see her left side of the face that's shaded. Well, if you added a "faint" pink on that shadow, it would make much more sense. Why? Cause her mane is right next to that shadow, so that pink color WILL REFLECT into her shaded left side of the face. Lighting, it's fascinating isn't it.

Of course there's other stuff such as "soft edges" "sharp edges" and "lost edges" (lost edges are interesting), others stuff like casting shadows too. You can look this stuff up. The word render refers to making a drawing or painting come to life by adding highest possible detail and respecting real life attributes.

I hope this helped you understand a bit about rendering. But most importantly, never give up! Practice will make you become that great artist! Good luck with your drawings!
