I loved the live action movie version of "Maleficent" and how the villainess becomes the protector of the princess in the end. As the story ends with Maleficent continuing as a protector of the princess turned queen and one can't help but to wonder at just how the mischievous , magical, Maleficent might find a playful outlet or two...(I mean, she sure seems like she'd be one devious Ler, don't you think?) In this pic, it turns out the fairies Aurora now rules have discovered a favorite pastime at her ticklish expense...and Maleficent is quick to remind Aurora that a queen's responsibilities mean keeping her fairy subjects happy....This is part of a series I've been doing of famous villains playfully/ruthlessly tickling...sometimes a loved one

As for what type of relationship is shown here - I leave that up to the eyes of the viewer and base it wholly on the protectiveness conveyed by the movie.

I have to say that Maleficent was certainly an 'unusual' treatment of Sleeping Beauty and in terms of the plot, well, there were just too many twists from the original and in many ways I STILL prefer that story. What can I say, Sleeping Beauty was always my favorite of the original Disney fairy tales and that was mainly because of Maleficent and she was just so deliciously evil.
But something else happened when I saw Maleficent and my jaw did drop in regards to Angelina Jolie's performance as Maleficent. While her role wasn't that of the evil fairy I come to love from Sleeping Beauty...I found that I ended up loving Jolie's version just as much as the original and in some cases even more. It is the 'what if' scenario that Disney presented in that what if Maleficent really wasn't evil. That something happened to her to cause her to shift from good to bad. So overall I liked how this was done.
The whole first half of the movie I thoroughly enjoyed, but yeah, there were many parts in the 'Sleeping Beauty' half of the story that I didn't agree with and probably never will. Overall it is a very good story (not great) with a superb performance by Jolie. Her Maleficent just came off as so likeable that I practically fell in love with her over night. Amazingly so, I was hung up on Maleficent for nearly a year and half. That is a record for me for being that attached to a character for so long.
But then this little gorgeous little lady came along and stole my heart:

But yeah, I still have strong feelings for Maleficent. I even created a fanfic for Maleficent called 'I'm Alive'. Basically I could see throughout the movie how well Maleficent and Diaval played off one another. How they smiled at one another and flew off together at the end of the movie had me thinking...'Uh huh...Yeah!' So I wanted to see a romantic relationship between the two and that is what my fanfic is about.

I guess I enjoyed the version shared in Maleficent better than in the original....perhaps because as a woman, I've never found the whole "sleeping beauty" storyline relatable....I mean, a stranger wakes the princess up with a kiss and she is expected to just fall in love with him? Yeah right....I was "woken up" in college by a stranger trying to kiss me once and kicked him in the balls ...just saying...
Sorry if that ruins the romance of the original story! LOL!
But as far as being a ruthlessly playful and effective tickler, I think both Maleficent and the actress portraying her would probably be devastatingly effective indeed!

Hmmmm, I am pretty much a die hard fan of the original Sleeping Beauty. But I can see your point too. Being a cartoon and back then they were just a little over an hour long, they have to cram quite a bit of story in such a short time. Whereas with Maleficent (2014) they had just over an hour and a half to play with.
I love that scene where she causes a thunderstorm inside the house. She gets all smiles and laughs and arches her shoulders forward. I LOVE when she does that! She also looks very attractive when she does that.

I love the look on her face after she douses Diaval with mud. Oh, yeah...that little devious smile at the end there. One thing certain about 2014 Maleficent, when she smiles...the whole room lights up. Yeah...she's THAT beautiful.

*Giggle!* Yeah...I love to draw scenarios where the Ler is simultaneously cuddling the Lee in a protective/cherishing way at the same time they are tickling their Lee out of their mind! There is just something soooo wonderfully fun and ruthless about such a contrast, don't you think?
And yeah, Maleficent's huge, strong wings really enabled me to emphasize that type of dynamic.....
