tiercel (n.) "the male of a hawk, esp. a peregrine or a goshawk" -- one of my favorite words, not a rule: once these boys are yours, they can just as easily be girls!

Tiercelcats range from the size of a house cat to the size of a lion, depending on breed. These are smaller individuals; they're arboreal creatures, built for speed and maneuverability in a forest setting. The long tails aid in balance, especially when climbing. They mate for life and live in small family groups; gryphons estranged from their clan will band together and form a new one.

Many human cultures believe in a bond between tiercelcats and people -- like Philip Pullman's concept of the daemon, it is believed that every gryphon carries half a human's soul, and vice versa; the spirit-siblings are fated to find each other and never be separated. It's up to you to design each gryphon's human half.
