Description The third of a series of images I created for Stardock Entertainment's Galactic Civilizations 3. More soon.
Eventscreen 3 - GALACTIC CIVILIZATIONS 3 - Copyright © 2014 ‪#‎Stardock‬ Entertainment

Created for an eventscreen in the game, the topic was about an ancient stranded spaceship, that over time has been captured and surrounded by ice. Technically this one was a little challenge and allowed me to play with a couple of techniques I didn't use before. It turned out better than I thought.

Event example: “Upon landing on this world, you quickly realize that it has been inhabited before. Beneath the northern ice, explorers have found an ancient starship. They believe they can free the ship from the ice, but the resulting melt will flood much of the arable land on the planet, and the climate change will kill most of the unique native species.”

That's really cool. I love how even though there's a lot of attention paid to the ship that you haven't forgotten the surrounding landscape.

Thank you. Yes, the first thing I imagined (when I got the description for the scene) was that there need to be some research facilities somewhere around the wreck. That helped with the worldbuilding and storytelling.

Worldbuilding and storytelling — love it. It's always fascinating to me how even in visual art these things still are vital.

I really like your use of textures in this, especially where the ice is covering the spaceship .

Thank you. There went some painting into the icy areas.  Found a good way to detail out the original 3d plate in that area. Enjoyed that part a lot.

You're welcome .  That's neat. I must admit I am a sucker for details though.

If that ship is anything like the Arnor ones in GalCiv 2 you could find, hell yeah, flood that planet!
