March 8th is International Women's Day. From today 'til then, I'll be sketching female characters from various games, books, comics and such whose stories have impacted and influenced my life. You can consider these my recommendation for powerful female characters to look up and learn about.

Day 7 — Kei and Yuri, from Haruka Takachiho's Dirty Pair series.

Okay so this was originally just going to be Kei, but I couldn't bring myself to highlight only one of the Lovely Angels. In a far-flung sci-fi future, Kei and Yuri are two investigators working for an intergalactic organization called the WWWA. They ALWAYS solve their cases.... but with tons of unexpected consequences (read: collateral damage) that somehow never winds up being directly their fault. The galaxy sees them (rightfully so) as disaster magnets and they have gained a (deserved) reputation as "the Dirty Pair" (think Dirty Harry), despite the fact that the WWWA always clears them of any responsibility for their mishaps. Kei is impulsive, strong-willed, and perhaps a little too gun happy sometimes. Yuri is reserved, brilliant, and modest. I relate a lot more to Kei, but I love them both. A product of the 1980s, they've been the subject of tons of manga, anime, and light novels that are finally being translated into English.
