Description
A silky shark in the Indian Ocean as it swims near the continental shelf. These sharks are one of the big three. This is a term I use for the three most abundant oceanic sharks, those being the Blue, Silky and Oceanic whitetip. Silky sharks have the best hearing out of all sharks, and this helps them to locate prey that is swimming in the open ocean, where food may be scarce (the open ocean is the oceanic equivalent of a desert). Silky sharks are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN mainly due to overfishing and trade of shark products.
