Zecora had the most votes! I really love her new design. As for her story The episode she was introduced the residents of Ponyville weren't afraid of her because she's a zebra (AJ being a zony and ponyville having a lot of residents that are hybrids and other non pony species, would've made it pretty racist). AJ's family (on her mom's side) are golden zebras, more commonly seen and are more involved in Agriculture and the like. Where as the grey zebras, which is what zecora is, are rumored to delve in dark magic and witchcraft. Many seem to believe this is why they have long tails, a trait only seen in unicorns. Due to rumors that they do dark magic and witchcraft, as well as being a more isolated species from deep within the wide expanse of the Everfree forest, as well as Zecora muttering and chanting some unknown language, is what made the residents of ponyville afraid of her. Applebloom wanting to know more about zebras, follows her into the everfree forest. The mane 6 run after her not just because they think she preforms dark magic, but mainly because Zecora is a stranger. In my headcanon Zebras can preform magic but only through potions or some form of runes, magic known as Old Magic, which existed before Unicorns came to be.
