First art of 2012, yaaay!! Not only did I draw something, I colored it! It's a miracle! ... bluhDid this for an art blog with work buddies. The prompt I came up with was to draw yourself in your style, but inspired by some sort of fighter from Japanese pop culture.
Probably some people will recognize this one, but it's an ability from Naruto that brings animal drawings to life. As an animator this felt fitting to me.The chuunin vest is the most unflattering thing.

That's an awesome piece. And agreed about the chuunin vest. It's sposed to be for males mostly, so it's design is strictly utilization. Not fashion x3 I don't know what sort of Jutsu from Narruto, would be used in order to summon your ink into physical form. Usually it's sign name on scroll of summon. Pay the price in Chakra an *BOOM* your demon. Still, this is an awesome piece.

I read that the idea was to infuse the ink with your chakra, which is what brings it to life... hey if you can make your chakra turn into a functioning clone of yourself, makes sense to me! Sai's the only one I know of in the series that uses it, though. The jutsu's called Choujuu Giga, which is something like "Great Beast Imitation Drawing" I guess.

If I remember correctly, the summons all live in some other dimension, and when you summon them, you channel your chakra/energy into calling them. but I don't remember too well.

Or just imagining what a picture should look like and get it transfered from your mind onto paper. Would also save a lot of time. *is lazy too*
Have been getting addicted to Naruto Shippuuden a lot lately and that jutsu is my favorite one so your picture really made my day.

I'm surprised you were able to get through the anime... I was watching the anime at one point and gave up around the point they were doing flashbacks to stuff that happened in the SAME EPISODE. There was just so much filler. Reading a chapter a week is slow, but at least there is no filler. I've been impressed with how the series has managed to keep developing after all this time.

Haha, yes, those flashbacks are annoying, good thing you can fast forward them when watching online. It`s like, yeah, I knew that, it happened 5 minutes ago...Or some events which were repeated at least 6 times in total, like Sasuke leaving Konoha and Sakura trying to stop him. Geez, I don`t need to see that 6 or more times. X_X
And the fillers, omg, I admit some of them were funny but in general I`d like to see the main plot progress more.
Gotta read the online manga now, you made me curious. XD

Yeah that's pretty much exactly what I was talking about. If you just like the characters interacting, filler is fine. If you want to see the plot go somewhere (and go places it does), read the manga.

I really like the perspective/foreshortening in this. And also the use of textures without them being overpowering.
I know you haven't done too much personal art in a while, but I'll tell you right now - this doesn't show it. Usually you see people take a few steps backward when they hit a slump. This piece shows you still got it. I especially like the facial structure. You draw the best mouths.
The Fuu-rrecat(?) is a really great touch too. I'm loving those paws and claws.

I'm hoping to come back from my slump stronger than I was before, which is why I've tried to mostly focus on studying anatomy and such... but I really haven't had any time in the past few months to do much studying. So random stuff like this is all I have to show.
Hehe Fuu-rrecat, I love drawing in that sort of style so I think I enjoyed drawing that more than trying to draw myself. XD It was very difficult to come up with a dynamic drawing pose. Drawing is something you usually do sitting down. Not very exciting. Even in Naruto the character that uses this ability is usually sitting or has something he's already drawn.
