heh...so this is my third, partially my fourth year as a member of my high school's creative writing publication, the Mandala. Every year we sift through student submissions, pick out the best ones, then get students to illustrate them. the submissions are anonymous when we decide what's going in. somehow my short story "mea culpa" got in, and I had the task of illustrating it. I got two pages that were just the story - I drew barbed wire around it - then a two page spread of just blank pages. this is the first year we've done full page art, especially a two page spread. so I was just a little intimidated.
This took me hours, needless to say, and I lost much sleep, but this is a photo of the final product. I was aiming for something that would pretty much sum up the story, so you could look at this illustration and pretty much figure out the story. the left half is the first section of the story, pretty much - when Vampiress and Silence are kittens - and the right side is the aftermath. you might recognize one of the images in here. I think that "Time to die, little brother" sketch inspired that scene of the story, so of course I wanted to put it in somehow.
yep... hopefully when we get the originals back, I can get a better scan of this, but until then... just this photo.

I think it's great that Mea Culpa was picked, and I love the illustrations. I seem to be drawn towards Silence as a favorite, but I guess that's pretty common, huh? And I also love Vampiress for yet another unknown reason. Maybe it's just that I like things that are somewhat morbid. Either way, this is an excellent work of art.

Ooh. Ooh. I love lines, and I love ink, and this is just... gorgeous. The lettering is beautifully effective, it really takes the forms and conveys something strinink to the viewer. Even though the left is so dark and the right is so light it remains ballanced anyway- you look between both pages equally. I don't know zip about these people but I want to.

Hmm...That's very interesting...o__O I love the erratic movement of the words, it has a sort of chaotic flow that is organized but suggests disortion. It's fabulous and the words themselves are rather striking. And your art is so unique! It's fabulous, really...Oh, and the creative writing organization strikes my curiosity. Could you tell me a bit more about it? My school, unfortunately, does not have a creative writing class, but we do have a creative writing CLUB and it sounds like an idea that could spur up more curiosity in the subject so that we could convince our arrogant principle to stop cutting the class year after year.

Completley random question here, but I've been wondering- What do Silence's eyes look like? Or does he never open them?

Yup, that's Vampiress.. X3
He has eyes... he's blind so they're kind of foggy, but his irises are a really light blue. I draw him without eyes more as a stylization... it's hard to explain, but for some reason I see a lack of eyes indicating something like a lack of soul (since eyes supposedly are the window to the soul), sort of like the ultimate form of brokenness... *shrug* Vampiress has a lack of eyes for sort of the same reason.

This must be the most interesting and wonderful piece of work I've seen for a while. I look and see tiny things that link together to make the ultimate picture.
