Description A somewhat (okay, very) self-indulgent thing that ran away from me which I had to finish tonight or it wasn't going to be finished at all.

Lucius, my Dungeons & Dragons character, the copper half-dragon evocation wizard in the style of "The Magician" Tarot card. He recently died and was brought back to life, learned a few things along the way, and got over some fears in the process (ironically death being one of them). He's a character who's meant a lot to me and has given me the opportunity to express things that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to.

There's a bunch of inherent symbolism in this thing - spellbooks, hawk's feathers, a crystal ball, gold coins, a spell scroll... As a young prodigy coming from wealth but with some serious self-loathing issues, Lucius struggles with the concept of becoming his own person. To become a man is harder than he expects it to, and the realization that power and being consumed by one's own fears can lead down a dark path of having one's fears consume you. Hopefully he realizes that just being who he is, is enough. Maybe this time.

The dying star behind him is supposed to represent his death and that in the event horizon of a dying celestial force, there is inevitably rebirth. Deep, I know.

Anyway I've talked too much, bye!

"He recently died and was brought back to life, learned a few things along the way" is perfect alfjkd. Haha it's true, you really never know what to expect with DnD do ya!

This is a gorgeous illustration: strong atmosphere, lots of detail, and a real sense of story. To struggle so much with your purpose-- then die-- must have been hard for poor Lucius, I couldn't imagine being in his place. Here's to hoping his future adventures give him the answers he needs! ;w;

DnD has seriously been such a light in my life because I’ve been able to work some stuff out in my personal life through Lucius and for that it’s been humbling. I never know what to expect with it and that’s part of the fun.

FUNNILY ENOUGH... immediately after I finished this, the adventuring party ended up in a fight that was essentially unwinnable and Lucius kiiiiinda had to sell his soul to a demon lord. So he’s trying to undo that bond, currently, while attempting to gain back the trust of his friends. Shit’s been rough but hey, at least they rescued the god they wanted to save.

Aww that's great to hear, how cool that DnD has had such a positive impact on you! A lot of people have said this, I guess there's a reason it's THE table top game. ;w; Shoot that took a sudden turn though, AWW GEEZ Lucius! Please keep us updated on this story, I'm curious to see how things turn out for this poor fella. He just can't catch a break, can he??
