Back on my bullshit with these binary/pixel portraits - this time with my favorite character, Mapleshade.

I've always had some amount of sympathy for this character (I think she's a cautionary tale of what power grief has over an individual) and I have a pretty extensive amount of headcanons surrounding her. I wanted to illustrate the Dark Forest "growing" out of her wounds, personifying the isolation and anger she felt even at the end of her life. In a way, she's more powerful than ever - only at the cost of everything.

If my Hawkfrost piece was to show off the descent into the Dark Forest, this one is supposed is supposed to display its genesis. Only an individual whose hatred transcended the very stars could construct a fate worse than death.
