Description My embroidery project for college. It's made from a whole load of reclaimed fabric, including bridal stuff, calico, muslin and jute; all sewn to a stretch mesh base. It took around about 100 hours to sew!

Extra special thank yous to ~Plumbob for taking the photos!

The brief was to make a garment entirely from surface decoration/embroidery techniques. The concept was inspired in part by [link] from ~pdtnc-stock

It's also for sale in my Etsy shop [link]
Feel free to go peek at more Etsyians! *EtsySellers

Wow, that's pretty darn awesome...... And, no offense to the model, but her feet look really long, which I think works great with the elongated mask to give just the picture a really creepy, yet amazing, feel. So neat!

Its a wonderful creation. I love all the texture...and your presentation is exquisite.
(On a side note...I have an unbelievably similar tattoo..on the same arm, as yours. Very similar flowers ( mine are on vines with leaves), and arrangement but mine extends down my hand.)

What preparations had you made in order to manufacture this highly-impressive piece? It's amazing. Did you have any designs prior? How does one sew something like this? It's fascinating and definitely a favourite. Thank you for sharing it and selling it.

Thank you Jono for your delightful comment!
A lot of research into current embroidery techniques went into this, followed by sketches and many small samples to see if the fabric would behave the way I wanted. I was hoping to push the boundaries of what we consider to be embroidery... (My mum saw it in progress, laughed, and told me it wasn't embroidery. I guess it worked! )
The making itself was more organic, I let intuition guide me whilst sewing the parallel lines of fabric. Finally the topiary took place! Placed on a human form I trimmed the fabric to give shape.

You're quite deserving of the accolade. I am mesmerized and in awe of the piece. I have not much experience sewing nor much knowledge of the craft, but have dabbled in it and enjoy it. Your piece is quite inspiring and very noticeable. It sounds that much of your over 100 hours of production were expended in researching the proposed technique, which is even more impressive, to me, than if you had just sat down and started with a pile of material without any design. Well done!

Fabulous textile art!! Only 100 hours of sewing?! It looks like a lot more LoL!

Great photo too, love the mask and the flowery tattoo and of course the lighting.

Perfect! And totally worthy of a DD!

its amazing, the cut of it the way the shape of it is like a pillowcase with an end hangin down, yet its so complementing and sexy but not in the usual obvious ways such as showing a woman's bare curve and some breast.

and lol, im already seeing lots of them but as soon as i saw it, just the dress i thought mirrormask, and then her mask and her hair only make it more so. lol but i love it. i love it to death. she looks so welcoming. like, so easy to hug or something.

I understand that people hate it when other people say that their works reminds them of something else, but this piece had me thinking that it was perhaps fanart for MirrorMask... and then I clicked on the link and saw the full detail of it.

I thought at first that this was a painting of sorts, so when It hit me that it was a photograph I was amazed. You really did an incredible job at well, everything. the composition is eyecatching. The dress is fabulous, and the lighting is fantabulous (yes I made up a word just for you)!

Instant fav.
^.^
