This one is a little hard to explain. It's WAY more cheesy than I was intending.

I originally drew Panthera by herself. I started drawing this image as a tribute to someone I know who was killed recently in Afghanistan. I was originally going to draw Panthera walking in a desert with a sunset behind her and her looking into this oasis. I was going to make a character to represent my friend, who was going to be standing behind her in the reflection. And I was going to have Panthera crying in her solid form but smiling in her reflection, remembering their friendship.

As you can see, that isn't how that went. I kept on crying every time I tried to draw my friend's character, and I just couldn't come up with anything that I thought really did him justice.

He was an amazing person, funny, loyal, strong and smart. I miss him dearly.

I was going to title it "Fire And Rain", based on the song by James Taylor. But I thought that was a bit dark considering what I ended up drawing.

This turned out to be more of an exercise in reflections than anything.

All I can say is this: The next time you see someone who's in the military, tell them 'Thank You'. You might feel awkward, but they appreciate it. And you never know if they'll have to be the one to make the ultimate sacrifice for your freedom.
