you see, in the book/movie, Jack P is trying to find his "mother", the person that created him. He meets Dorothy and after she helps him together and to escape his attic prison, he asks,
"Excuse me, Dorothy. Even though it's not the case... may I call you 'mom'?"
I seriously went "AWWWWWW" outloud at that line <3
