Description A film prop for a show i'm working on. It's a 3 inch square box with a round hinged lid. I laser cut the pattern in wood, then made a silicone mold, cast in resin and glued togather. Lots of washes and some dry brushing for aged look.

Thanks! I was really happy that it came out, and the machining of the angles and that damn round door in the top! sheesh, I had to make all these jigs and templates to pull it off. I got it so clean at last that you really couldn't see the seam! hehehe, made me really happy. finished 20 minutes before Morgan Bedwell came by and picked it up (very similer to our "birds from hell" job in the timing *smirk*

hehe, sometimes I agree, this job was one of them that's for sure. I was working for a great props person, Moemoe, she is really good at providing ref pics and letting me know just what they want. Makes things go so much better

They gave me the design they wanted, I just did the sculpt... yeah, it sure helps to have a good design to start with tho. This one was a pleasure

Why I must fave everything you make? Can you tell me that? Stop being so good!
(just kidding, great work this time (as always), I would like something like that in my room...)

thank you so much, very glad you like the stuff. I would love one of these too, I sometimes hate that I have to give the pieces to the company that commissions them

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Maylar In reply to TimBakerFX [2009-02-18 05:44:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know the feeling...did some commissions and works by other people's designs/ideas...and besides, often (too often ) I have to separate from my works (curse of doing art for living…talk about rolling in the same boat )...and somehow, when it comes to doing it for myself, repeat it, making another, I'm too lazy, too unwilling...think that's because I like my art to be unique (as I'm sure every artist, in any field does) and having a "another one" just doesn't do it :sigh:

can you give me any tips on latex prosthetic casting?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TimBakerFX In reply to Anariel-Erestor [2009-02-19 20:34:15 +0000 UTC]

sure, what kind of prosthetics are you casting? the hollow latex casts are really easy... pottery plaster works best since it sucks up all the water.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Anariel-Erestor In reply to TimBakerFX [2009-02-20 01:56:09 +0000 UTC]

Hollow latex. Pointed ears mostly ^_^ I wanted to cast my own Vulcan ears (among other things like Jewelry which will be done with acrylic). where can I find pottery plaster?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TimBakerFX In reply to Anariel-Erestor [2009-03-13 12:37:15 +0000 UTC]

any craft store should have that... plaster of paris will work just fine too

I was going to say the same thing as far as the Hellraiser feel to it...
Really love the detail...

Yeah, it's hard to escape that comparison with this piece, but I did like the way this one turned out. I would have loved to do a much more complicated puzzle box design

RandyHand In reply to TimBakerFX [2009-02-17 17:22:54 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you need to necessarily escape that comparison...
That box on Hellraiser is incredible just like yours...
I've always liked the idea of intricately designed boxes.
That and the whole Steampunk thing are really fascinating to me...
Looking forward to more cool designs from you...
Take care

Cool design for the lid! The thumbnail image reminded me of the puzzle-cube from 'Hellraiser'

TimBakerFX In reply to savageworlds [2009-02-17 17:12:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks The lid too so much time getting fit, I wanted it to lay perfectly flat and have the seam be invisible. This is as close as I can come
