Description The Lasseri

Physiology:

Lasseri often stand at around 6 and a half feet tall with 275 pounds being a healthy weight for an average adult; The females are usually slightly taller but slimmer than the males, in addition to the different sex organs and the developed mammary glands on the females. Fur color tends to vary between whites, browns and grays of varying hues. Eyes are often either black, dark blue or yellow in daylight and all Lasseri eyes glow red in the dark (the elvish geneticist that achieved this died before sharing her secrets and her notes have been lost). Lasseri technically have 4 fingers on their hands in addition to their thumb, but they act like two giant fingers due to the linked muscles in their hands. Lasseri's shoulders hunch over the neck and are much more durable than most of the muscles in their body, giving them a slight hunch-backed appearance.

As an evolutionary bypass, the Lasseri are actually carnivores despite the Elves picking European Hares as their non-human DNA donor. This is due to the plants that make up the steppes are harder to digest than all plants on Earth (where Lepus europaeus and Homo sapien come from), and the elves not being able to splice any of the local herbivores.
Evolutionary Development:
The Lasseri were engineered to live in the vast rolling Ranghin Steppes that cover much of Makai's eastern continent, which are home to many predators and aggressive herbivores. Despite being able to reproduce rapidly they weren't able to adapt to the hardships of the steppes, eventually going extinct after 2 generations. The then engineered heightened aggreesion, bulk and their elemental ability into their genome and released a second batch which spread throughout the steppes and survive today.

In order to help them capture prey, the Lasseri managed to domesticate one of the local predators as mounts, beasts of burden and guard animals, calling them Wargyls. In addition, due to their repeated raids on the border of Minotaur territory, the Lasseri adopted the Minotauren alphabet, language and pantheon into their culture.

Society:

Like many other demon races, family is sacred and it's vastly dishonorable to kill an elder. At least as far as parent and child is concerned. When it comes to siblings, what is often described as senseless fratricide by outsiders is simply how the family of a Lasseri works. The eldest is not the heir of the parents, the strongest, toughest and most brutal out of all of the children is. The Steppes are often described as the most dangerous place on Makai, and every Lasseri expects their offspring to be able to claim the top of the food chain when their adults. And given that a female can have 2 litters (up to 6 babies) a year, competition among the siblings is expected and often encouraged. Ears, teeth, fingers, patches of skin, sometimes even hands can become trophies for the victorious sibling in these power struggles, if the loser is lucky enough to have survived.

This fratricide mentality also applies to how the various clans of the Lasseri view each other as well. Raids between the clans are common as they compete for hunting grounds. And they seem perfectly content with continuing these, citing that “Eventually the strongest will be the only ones left”

Around 30 years of age, the parents task their young with the task of taming a wargyl. If they success, then they are considered an adult and may sire children. Rarely a Lasseri will walk away from a failure attempt at taming a wargyl.

As trees of any kind are mostly absent from the steppes (they're actually a very expensive commodity) Much of their building materials come from bones and hides, although they have managed to obtain smelting technology from raiding the Minotaurs.

Language:

In addition to the pheromone control that the Lasseri developed, they also developed some signs using their ears, but mostly in terms of potential prey and predators and their proximity compared to the Lasseri in question.

They also use the Minotauren language to converse among themselves, however like the rest of their demon kin, they possess vocal cords that allow them to speak Elvish and all human languages. By principal a Lasseri is bilingual (often Minotauren and Elvish) when they reach adulthood.

Elemental Ability:

In addition to the glowing red eyes, the Elven geneticist managed to give the Lasseri a unique elemental ability: Kinetic Energy Manipulation. However, they can only affect the kinetic of an object that their fingers are touching or their fist. They can sap, redirect or enhance kinetic energy, but their limits aren't known due to them not wanting to participate in Elvish experiments. It has been reported that one managed to punch a Leviathan out of the water, but this could just be a Lasseri urban legend.
