Oh look, pony picture!Drew a picture of Miss Mod's version of Celestia and also tried a slightly different drawing style(wings and stuff) and new-ish colouring style.

So what's the concept behind her? Is she somehow different from Solar Flare?

Miss Mod just changed her design a bit so her hair would look more of fire(because Sun) instead of the usual pastel looking colours

I can understand that, but was there any other reason to change it from the look of the Aurora Borealis to that of the sun?

Well Celestia is the Princess of the Sun. The Aurora Borealis is cool and all but that now seems like a thing for Cadence whose Kingdom actually creates the Aurora Borealis when there is a lot of magic.(Of course that can be debated)
The sun is a big, bright, fiery ball . "Solestia"'s mane is based on that trait.
I guess that answers why from Northern Lights to fire.
Any other special or specific reason, I do not know of because this idea of design is not mine but Miss Mod's. Whatever I said could just be my interpretation and/or opinion.

Well that's because Solar Flare is a fan speculation as to what things would have been like if Celestia had turned evil and not Luna.

Indeed, I've known Solar Flare earlier this year via artwork that come and go. Speaking of which... do you have that slightest feeling that maybe... JUST maybe... Solar Flare COULD become canon? I'm not assuming too much, I just had the feeling because the vulnerability of either princesses to turn evil is very high; I would understand why Luna turned first because of her jealousy and young mind. But indeed, what if Celestia turned instead?
