I just want to say I love all the background stories for your shots! They add charm to the photo, I discover something new about a place I've never visited.

That's great I always look at photos and wonder about where they are taken and what they are, so I like to share info.

Me too! I like a little info, it adds that little something to the image, you know?

Nice shot! B&W is a good choice, but in my very unprofessional opinion I would add some more contrast and sharpen it a little bit.
Have a great day!

Looks like a cute little town!

Yeah, it really is! One fast food place, they did have a single A high school but it consolidated into a AA for the entire county and moved out of town. But the town has so many icons! Dozens of mansions, a nice golf course, and a huge old Victorian Inn which might be my favorite place in the world to stay. [link]

I co-wrote a romance novel with a friend and a lot of the story takes place there. I would highly recommend it if you travel through northern WV. The food is excellent, and it's walking distance from...uh...anywhere in town

When I start stalking you I'll be sure to stop there on my quest. Though, I doubt I'll ever have the money to stay there or travel anytime soon. So, you're safe.

Aw it wouldn't even be sporting to stalk me here This area is so rural that you could ask anyone "Where's Timmy?" and they will say somehting like, "Yeah, he's usually watching TV about this time"

Haha, damn. All well. When I feel like succeeding at something I'll head over.

What's this new critique thing?!

I don't want everyone to see that I critiqued you! I'm probably not even qualified to do an official critique so I'm telling you in a comment that this one isn't working for me. The light balance seems to be off and the depth isn't there. It's a good composition though.

Thanks, I like critique

I was debating to post the color or the BW, which is not really BW but IR. I think the contrast I applied to bring out the houses made the sky too dark. I wanted to include the tree on the left as the main focal point, and include the ferry which is on the right. I think that might have made the village too distant. Maybe I'll do a different version later.

Sorry I took so long in getting back to you. School has had me swamped.

I do like the tree in the composition but you're right when you say the sky is took dark. The bottom grassy area is too light as well. Then again...I don't even know what IR is...

IR- Infrared. If you look at Ansel Adam's landscapes, most of those were shot with infrared film rather than B&W.

Well! I'm speechless.

How do you do it with the digital camera then?

TimLaSure In reply to chalutplease [2009-04-07 14:45:49 +0000 UTC]

In my software there's an effect category called "photo effect" that includes about any colored filter you might screw on a lens, B&W, IR, and others.

I'll have to check that out when I get mine up and running again. Thanks Timmy!
