This is an idea I have had for some time. Some people say smilodon had big lips, others say it lips had some kind of depression for the teeth to stick to, and others say...it had...actually thats all I can think at the moment. But I always wondered what if the smilodon had cartilagenous sheaths for its "sabers" so that they wouldn't wear away?
