Description This is a new character I came up with that is more than loosely based on Nyah from the Devil Girl from Mars. I'm trying to develope and idea which lifts wholesale from those B-movies. Why does she have "Kirby Krackle"? Because I like Kirby Krackle dammit! I think Nyah in the film is very attractive, but she seems to old. This character is younger and has more energy. I like the little headpiece she wears in the film, which is a big part of her costume, but at the same time I don't like it either. I really like the short trimmed bangs with raven black hair that the one dancing she-demons has in the She-Demons movie. So I'm going with that on this character. Again, I'm not trying to ape Bruce Timm's style completely, but I have looked at a lot of his stuff and it is definitely coming through. My intention was to go for a more cartoony style, because it is easier in my opinion. That's probably the opinion a lot of animators think now. Hell, the so called "Cal Arts" style is proof of that. What is surprising is when you go back and watch the original Teen Titans cartoon from the 00s or Justice League Unlimited and think that that stuff is more realistic than what's out now, when I said back in that time period, why is everything becoming so cartoony?

I think cartoons are at their best when they enjoy the advantages of not having to be photo-realistic.  You can exaggerate things in a variety of ways to create all kinds of effects that 'realism' could not capture.  I love Timm's style; I think it stands the test of time.  And I love your take on it as well.  Works perfectly with this subject matter.

Thanks! Alex Toth is another I've been looking at a lot. Simplicity was his aim, to convey everything about a subject in as few lines as possible.

Yes, he also used a lot of shadow and black backgrounds that made things look stark sometimes.

I had gotten away from using a lot of blacks when I went digital 6 years ago. Not that I'm getting back into traditional, I'm starting to use more blacks.
