Description She cried for all the broken hearts,
Painted everlasting winters -
Floral patterns etched in ice;
A frozen tear to
Soften up the bastard bones.

Bow made love to needy string
In cooing fling - wanton whispers
Fondled under pianissimos,
Caressing callous hearts.

Melodrama swayed in satin sound -
Yet the player wasn't there,
Only creamy song - soothing, yearning,
Teasing bitter minds.

I sensed her persevering loneliness
For beauty of an evening,
Romance of a tune - laughing,
Sobbing at the fire.

Then a climax -
Writhing passion cutting deep -
Wounding macho flesh;

And all in a work of musical art:
Ephemeral stories, yarned of music
Honed impossibly through her tones.

- Mark R Slaughter, "Violin"

I don't think my computer enjoys processing such large images, but it hasn't crashed, yet. This was drawn for the Homestuck shirt design contest.

This is amazing. The details are fantastic and it doesn't need a background because the foreground works well enough on it's own. The hands are the most amazing hands I have ever seen. They always look a bit too smooth on most images, but the hands you've drawn have contours and depth, they look real.

Thank you so much. ^_^ This entire pose would more or less have been impossible without a model, not to mention the instrument itself; as it was, I play the violin, and my own hands seem to provide a wonderful insight into how I should create hands. x) Thanks for your kind feedback; it makes my day that much nicer.

You're welcome!

I see, I used to practice the violin when I was young, but I found that it wasn't for me. It's a stupidly hard instrument to draw because there are so many small details that most people forget.

I'm glad.

That's the case for most people, isn't it? It's a little unfortunate so few persist with the instruments they begin learning, but there we are. Still, nice to know you did play it once. ^_^

And as for drawing violins, the overall shape and placement of every feature is surprisingly difficult to capture, too. The proportions must be precisely correct, not to mention the posture of the player, or it doesn't even look like a violin. If it's this hard to draw, I don't want to imagine how demanding it must be to craft them.

Yeah, I don't want to even imagine how hard it could be. It was more my teacher trying to push me into it. I am not a musical person.

I understand that sentiment. :/ What do you like doing, then? Aside from art, of course?

Writing and animating, although I do love needle work.

I'm guessing the purple lights are there to represent Rose as the Seer of Light.

In a way, yes. I suppose the interpretation of any given piece of art depends on the viewer.

Lindsey Stirling? To be honest, I didn't think of that. xD I acted as my own reference, because violins are too difficult to draw without one. But you're right, it does look a little like her. Thanks. ^_^
