Description One of most impressive sculpts on Powązki Catholic Cemetery. Grave of Lusia Raciborowska, who died in 1899 on the age of 18.

Whole monument (sarcophagus, lid and figure) is made from one (!) piece of white Cararain marble. Author: Donato Barcaglio, about 1899.

Oh, I know, I'm a member of both! It just seems that the ones in Europe have more prettier monuments, if for no other reason than their age.

maybe you're right,
but if you look at the comments added to Eternal Youth you'll see, that sculpt of the young woman, who died about 1990, was created in 1992.

Believe me, the pictures simply can't present the amazing multisensorial atmosphere: dark night, little lights all around you, smell of wax/stearine, fallen leafs and flowers (mostly chrysantemum), temperature (usually quite cold) and whispering of still living visitors.

Oh I'm sure that the reality of it must be far more reaching than what a picture can convey, but I really liked how the shadows come across the monuments and the color palette of it. The overall impression reaches deep!
