Description Tauhou is the native Maori name for the the Silvereye or Wax-eye. It is a very small passerine bird native to Australia, New Zealand and the south-west Pacific islands. Silvereyes were recorded in New Zealand as early as 1832 but it was not until 1856 that they arrived in very large numbers. It is assumed that a storm caught a migrating flock and diverted them here. The Maori name means β€œstranger”. Because the silvereye colonised New Zealand naturally, it is classified as a native species and is therefore protected. They measure around 12 cm and weigh approximately 13 g, have olive–green feathers, white rings around the eyes, a fine tapered bill and a brush tipped tongue for drinking nectar.

absolute absolute winner. I love the fact it stands out so far though the colors overall were green emphasized yet, theres this contrast play which i think you had it all well controlled. brilliant work!

Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it! Yeah treating the different greens was a bit tricky but I'm happy with the result.

And this is my favourite piece of yours
This little fellow just pops off the canvas. The colours are gorgeous, particularly that dreamy green background.

That dreamy green background took 2 hours to complete, believe it or not... I had to work on the 4 paintings from the series at the same time cos I mixed the green from 5 different shades. Painting with acrylic in the heat of summer is never a good idea when you're trying to keep the colours wet enough to blend!

Thank you for the kind comment Andy. To be honest I ran out of time with this painting, it was the last one of the 4 to be done. I managed to finish the little fella but had to skim over a lot of the background details. Managed to squeeze it out in 3 hours (with 2 on the green!!) and running on 36 hours of no sleep! Man I put myself through hell sometimes.

It's currently hanging on display in a hotel til March, when I get it back I think I'll complete it.

It's funny how sometimes the artwork done in a short time has a freshness that is hard to recapture. I am often pondering how my initial rough sketches seem to regularly have more life in them than the finished work that results from them.

I hope you will at least stare long and hard at this painting when you get it back before you decide to add to it

I definitely will. I'll leave the bird untouched. It's just a couple of details in the leaves and berries.
