Description Product of a 30-minute study break turned to nearly 3 hours T.T My puppy has eyelashes like this!
I recorded a process video, woo! But idk where the first 10-20 min went! I did it in fragments not to overburden my pretty little lappy and this is what I get  thanks computer, I know you hid it somewhere -.-

Hey, screw fur and everything else. I made this whole thing with a standard hard round brush (and something textured fur das Blut) and it was all fun until it came to doing the fur, you can probably see exactly where I gave up

Haven't lost the reference picture yet, it's a miracle! But how can I show you without uploading to stash or whatever??
I know why I'm feeling so chatty today. It's because I have exams coming up, and I must dodge work at all cost

I will add the video link as soon as I have time to put it up on YouTube or something

Makes me think about Molo, in Princess Mononoke (don't know if you've seen already).
It's something like "I'm sorry... Don't let me down". The expression of the eye is particularly shattering.

The details in this are astounding, I love the painterly feel!

"I made this whole thing with a standard hard round brush ... and it was all fun until it came to doing the fur"
Ahaha oh yeah, fur is something I have a love/hate relationship with xD I'll tend to do flat colors with the default hard round brush, then once I get to the shading and other things like fur, I do it all with a default cloud brush (the one that is default 17 pixels size) with transfer setting on (transfer has gotta be the best thing in existence, right next to ctrl Z haha), it's what I used to paint the entirety of the subject matter here: theincrediblehibby.deviantart.… as well as most of my other recent stuff..Custom brushes are nice and handy and all, but that doesn't mean you can't do a lot of stuff with the defaults! xD

Thank you so much ^>^
What's the cloud brush? I'm so terrible at keeping track of my brushes oh my god    i'll look for it asap. and yeah I've always got transfer on, it's holy <3 saves so much time is2g, thanks for the tips! Usually I use rough painterly brushes and i think this must be my first actual piece using the hard round, and ohh nnnooo your fur is so good!! Plus I love deers

You're very welcome! ^w^
Ahaha no worries, it's the cloud-ish looking brushes in the fifth and sixths rows here, as well as the last two rows
pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com/bas…
the one I always use is that last one in the fifth row x3
Omg yes, transfer, ctrl z, ctrl s, clipping masks...basically all of photoshop is the greatest thing ever xDD You're welcome! Aaah thank you so much ;3; me too, deer are my absolute favorite animals ;w;

Yeah it took me a while to figure it out, but once I got the hang of it I use them for practically everything xDD Like for example when I do gradients or shading/highlight effects, I make a new layer and put it as a clipping mask to the layer I have my flat colors on, then I put the gradient/shading/highlights on that new layer and it only appears inside the boundaries of the flat colors without actually changing the flat colors, sorta like the transparency lock :3 I hope I'm making sense with this description because I am really bad at trying to explain things clearly Dx You're welcome~!

Oh really? That's so cool!

yeaaah omg it's so neat!! i love it! holy crap it's gonna be so great with a clean minimalistic style and multiple layers. Thing is I only work on 2-3 layers because i have nooo discipline whatsoever but hey, thanks for showing me cool stuff XD

xDD I'm glad I made sense, I was afraid that my explanation would end up being a bunch of nonsense ;v; Ahaha you're welcome! I've gotten to where I always end up working with multiple layers...some of my more complicated photoshop files have gotten to 100, even 200 layers before xD!! Not on purpose though, usually because I...lose track of how many layers I've got going on haha...

Aside from astronomical layer numbers, the only reason I'm able to keep track of what's on what layer half the time is because I obsessively name the layers and have many groups that are also named, haha :'DD

I have seen alot of horses die in my days. You got the eye down pretty good, but the hair makes it look more like a cow. The blood came out really well. Can't wait to see more from you!

thanks but a cow D= oops. i definitely need to work on hair eh

ReapersPen In reply to tinselswan [2015-04-02 05:45:59 +0000 UTC]

No need to be sorry, it doesn't really bother me. The only reason I mentioned it is because you captured the look in the eye very well, as I said before. Horse hair is very short, straight and each hair is very thick (just for future reference). The execution of the hair came out very well though.
