Quick thought: What if Frisk really fell down to the Underground because he was searching for his family, who one after another got trapped there and fell to the hand of the monsters possibly in hopes of finding one of the children; And Frisk, the last remaining family member heads down there to find them. Sadly, each one dies leaving their items in the hands of the vendors.
