Every essence of anxiety Alexa had was instantly quashed by an overpowering sense of joy as the door to the room opened and allowed the incredibly irate Keith and Buizel to enter, finally confronting the man ultimately responsible for scheming the kidnapping.

"YOU!!" Kincaid roared viciously. "What have you done with the Sinis Trio?!"

"I thought they were on lunch breaks, so I gave 'em knuckle sandwiches," Keith retorted.

Slowly but surely, Alexa's apprehension returned to her; she knew Keith tried to make a witty comeback, but the look in her friend's eyes...and the tone of his voice...failed to match his intent.

"Now, unless you want one too, let Alex go. NOW."

"I swear, Keith, you're almost as annoying as Alexa!" Kincaid yelled nastily. "And the very thought of the pair of you together makes my stomach turn!"

"Oh, well, isn't THAT a shame?" Keith asked sarcastically.

He kept his savage glare solely focused on Kincaid as he and Buizel moved in front of Alexa, Keith standing in front of his helpless friend protectively while his Buizel stood in front of Keith, ready to fight if the need arose.

"Because if you want to hurt Alex, you'll have to get through me!"

A tiny and barely audible whimper escaped Alexa as she looked up at her protective partner; though his back was turned on her, she could easily tell his anger was only building up to unspeakable heights - the more he spoke to Kincaid, the more violently he yelled.

"And believe me when I say that I WON'T go down without a fight!! I'LL MAKE YOU PAY FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE TO HER!!"

Through his anger, however, Alexa's eyes began to water as she felt the loyalty infused with not only his words, but even in his delivery. She could feel her heart beating more rapidly and found it hard to keep her breathing under control...but...it wasn't from fear...

Felt like doing something (that was SUPPOSED to be) nice and simple, so I chose a redraw. The original is seven years old, so I think I can get away with it.

Heh; as much as I keep bitching about Almia Shadows , I do have to admit that this moment is one of the few moments in the fic that I LOVE.

Context : in chapter 21, Alexa gets kidnapped and held hostage by Team Dim Sun remnants Kincaid & the Sinis Trio (Ice, Lavana & Heath) in order to prevent the Ranger Union from stopping them, only for Keith to get to her and free her in chapter 22 and for him to OFFICIALLY rescue her in chapter 23 - but not before Keith gets the scars I keep drawing him with in the process.

As much as I dislike at least the first 19 chapters of Almia Shadows, this little "saga" still holds up in my opinion and it cements itself as the FINAL moment Keith and Alexa have before they become an item - yep, they're only best friends during the whole ordeal.

EDIT: Fixed a tiny error I found while colour-picking.

EDIT 2: Changed the title because, like I said, they're technically just friends at this point.
