Description My friends Nikki and Jared on the city steps of Boston. ^__^ Punk definetly isn't dead when it comes to them. And they realy loved it, so I'm happy. ^_______^ Graphiti kicks ass. The walls say "Nikki + Jared" and "Punx Not Dead" if ya can't tell. o.o Damn, those two make such a great couple and remind me so much of my mate and I from time to time.

The stairs are a bit ... "EH o_O" I now realize... I need work with perspective. but oh well. The pics got a sortof dreamy quality to it. Which it should.

I love colouring plaid.

Media: pencil, prisma pencils, ink pens, and pants. ... yes. pants. (for reference.)

Meh, not a bad drawing... however, Atreyu and AFI are anything BUT punk bands. I think this is called mallgoth.

I don't stick to labels very much anyways.
Drawn for my friends. Soooo, not my fault what's on there.
And, punk is what you make it. The definition of punk is to go against the norm and rebel against that you dont like. Atreyu and AFI do so.
A lot of people have different opinions - I just go with what I like.

Thats not true, AFI and Atreyu are very popular and play onto those little rebellious feelings that young teenagers have. How rebellious can comething be if it's played on MTV?

AFI and Atreyu rebell against that which THEY don't like, in their music. That's called being an artist and having self expression. It COULD also be related to the stereotypical "Punk" culture. I could care less what the media trys to feed or represent to the masses. And really, neither could the bands as long as it's nothing bad. That's how musicians survive - by exposure.

I'm only saying, that both bands write and sing what they want. Not what the popular things at the time are. Sure, maybe they throw a song out or two (perhaps too many, Ill admit) about suicide. But at least they're not pretending like the problem doesnt exist. And yes, they are trying to reach people through it. What band doesn't? Even bands like The Sex Pistols, or The Clash, or any other classics do. They're expressing their anger, happiness, sadness - universal feelings anyone can share towards a situation.

As for MTV, Basing everything off of "They got popular, so now they're not Punk or rebellious." Is the same situation that happened with Green Day. They make a God of punk music album, Dookie, and then when American Idiot comes out and gets overplayed (DEFINETLY overplayed..) on MTV, and they blow up, everyone gets angry at them - saying THEY'RE the ones who wanted to get popular. They can't change the ratings. They didnt tell people to like them. But they ARE still musicians. Selling albums is their paycheck. MTV is it's own little world. It does not define music culture or bands. I hate MTV. They're contradictive little bastards. I lost all respect for them when they played Pink Floyd's reunion at Live 8 and cut out to their VJ's. Dumbasses.

AFI does not buy into mainstream media. Sure, they've got a few shirts at any local Hot Topic store, but what band doesnt nowadays? What's wrong with offering your fans merchandise at a conveinant location, I ask. As for Atreyu, honestly, I don't know them. Don't listen to them. My friend Jared does. So I have nothing to back that one up. There's a quote that sums up what Im trying to say:

"When you're playing a style of music that doesn't really fit anywhere, you run a risk. You're challenging people to leave their niche, to leave their predetermined ideas of what they're supposed to like. Luckily, we have a lot of people who just focus on the music and appreciate us for what we are. So we get fans from all different genres of music, the jocks, the spooky kids, skaters, college kids, punk rockers, hardcore kids, metal kids, all that" - Davey Havok, AFI ([link] )

The point of this picture though, in all reality, was to play off of the whole "punk" stereotype. The reason there are even "Atreyu" and "AFI" patches on the coat, are because the person in real life actually has them.

Eh, I disagree with pretty much everything you said. Hot Topic sells merch from mainstream bands, or very close to it. When was the last time anyone saw anything punk at a Hot Topic? aren't those things all out in the suburbs anyway? How many punks are there in the distant suburbs?

Rebellion isn't necessarily punk. Eveerything and kid buys into is at least a little rebellious in nature.

I can name at LEAST 100 punk bands that don't sell their shit at Hot Topic, because it is hot topic.

Im gonna drop this though, cause it isnt really worth argueing about. I think you and I have different views on what punk is.
