A Prince Fukaboshi and Madam Shyarly drawing I ship these two so much you guys...

Headcanon:: Shyarly is 10 years older (more or less), and she hasn't been able to get herself into Fishman Island without meeting Fukaboshi. She also has not been able to control her psychic predictions, and because her predictions end up with something bad, she hasn't been able to handle herself very well. And while in a relationship with the Prince of Fishman Island, her predictions usually end up with her lover harmed. Fukaboshi knew about her future-sight very well, and supports her, but he had no idea just how bad her predictions were.

So in the end, when Madam Shyarly had many bad predictions (most with Fukaboshi hurt), she couldn't take it and the two ended up breaking up. She hoped that while her predictions are mostly true- that if she were no longer with Fukaboshi- the breakup would ease her pain of seeing him hurt or even prevent him from being hurt.

Shyarly even cut her hair from the madness she's been feeling. In most books that she's read from the above ground world, witches who also had powers become obsolete when their hair is cut. It didn't work out so well, but in high hopes, she keeps her hair short. Fukaboshi is still left in the dark about how bad her predictions are, even after breaking up with her. Even though he acts like the stoic man he is, he still deeply cares for her.

The reason for their relationship even when she is much older than he is, is because most mermen live longer than humans. Or so it seems. I mean, Hachi is pretty old and he still looks more or less the same. He knew Rayleigh, and he even knew Hordy when he was just a kid. That was the same time Shyarly was just as old as Hordy. And when Queen Otohime died, we had no idea how old her children were at the time (except Shirahoshi, who was 6 years old). Hordy was already considered an adult when he became a soldier and killed Otohime. Neither manga nor anime disclosed the age of the other mermen. So yeah :I
