Description The Were-Eds and the White Wolf

Part 4
Book Hunting and the Sleeping Prince

The door opened slowly with a loud creak, heavy on its old hinges.  Light flooded the entrance hall inside, coming through the doorway behind the children.  Double D entered the room and blinked furiously as his eyes adjusted.  The room was huge, with a large double staircase that led to the upper stories of the house, a large crystal chandelier hung above them.  The room was dark except for the light coming from the door.  The rest of the group entered the room, they all huddled in the center, looking around the strange place.  Kevin whistled and said, "talk about creepy."  "Its not creepy," said Double D admiring the quality of the woodwork on the walls, "its just dark."  Suddenly the door behind them slammed shut, and the room was enveloped in darkness.  Jimmy and Sarah shrieked at the sound and Nazz clung to Kevin.  Then a strange, distorted voice spoke from the shadows.

"Welcome," it said snidely, "you must be here to break the spell; well let me shed some light on the situation."  With that the chandelier above them lit on its own, all the lights in the room burned brightly.  They all could see other lights around the house were on as well.  The roomed was filled with light, illuminating the woodwork and paintings on the walls.  The room seemed much more brighter than earlier, but Double D knew not to take anything here at face value.  "Stay on your guard everyone," said Double D, "remember this house is supposed to be full of enchantments to stop us from breaking the spell.

"So now what," said Lee, "aren't we supposed to be looking for some book?"  "Yeah," said Eddy, "where are we supposed to find this book?"  Everyone thought for a moment, trying to think of where to look.  Suddenly Ed had an idea, he turned to Double D and said, "Double D, if you were a book, where would you be?"  Double D thought for a moment then smiled.

"Why Ed," said Double D, "thats brilliant, I know just where to look."  Ed smiled sheepishly, quite proud of himself.

"What do you know Double D Ed boy," asked Rolf, "where are we to find this book?"  "Yeah," shouted Sarah, "just spit it out already!"

Double D just smiled and said, "where do you go when you need to find a book?"  Everyone thought for a moment, then they all smiled in realization.  "Exactly," replied Double D, "the library!"

Then Eddy cried out in aggravation, "but this house is huge, how are we going to find the library?"

"We should split up," said Kevin, "we could cover more ground that way,"  "Yeah," said Eddy, "but we shouldn't go alone."  Johnny spoke up, "well, plank says we could split up into four groups of three, that way we can defend ourselves against anything that happens."

"Actually," said Double D, "thats a great idea, we could all look around and meet back here when we find the library."  So the plan was set, they split into four groups of three; the Edds and the Kankers formed their own groups.  While Sarah, Jimmy, and Johhny split off, that left Rolf, Nazz, and Kevin as the last group.  "I can safely assume that the library will be on this floor," said Double D, "if you find the library or you get in trouble, meet back here."

"What do we do about the magic around here," asked Johnny, sounding more than a little nervous.  Double D grew very serious, he knew they had no protection against magic, all he could do was advise caution and to run if things got serious.  Just then the strange voice returned, teasing them with his sarcasm it said, "well it sounds like you have a plan then, enjoy exploring the house and don't worry, I wont hurt any of you, too much."

They all stood still, now they knew that this voice was their enemy, the curse on the very house itself.  With that they split up, each heading down different hallways in the house.  Nazz and her group headed towards the east wing, looking in each doorway they passed to no avail.  Some even had people in them, fast asleep in the middle of chores.

"Man, there are so many rooms in this house," sighed Kevin, "its gonna take all day."  "Stop complaining Kevin," said Nazz, "we have to keep looking."  With that, they opened the last door in the hall to find themselves in the kitchen.

"Wow, this is one big kitchen," said Rolf.  Suddenly whispers seemed to be coming from the walls the sound was unnerving.  "Whats that," asked Nazz.  The whispers grew louder, then suddenly all the drawers opened up.  "I don't like whats going on," said Kevin, they began to back out of the room slowly.  Suddenly from every drawer, knives of all shapes and sizes rose into the air hundreds of them.  They all whirled around and pointed directly at the three  in the doorway.

"Rolf thinks we should leave... now," said Rolf fearfully.

Suddenly one knife launched forward, sticking itself into the wall next to the door.  They ran to the door, trying hard to pry it open, but it was stuck. "No," shouted Nazz, "the door!"  Another three knives launched themselves into the walls around them, narrowly missing the three by inches.  "Crap," yelled Kevin.  They watched as all of the knives began to vibrate. "Rolf wishes to get out of here," said Rolf with that he threw his whole weight onto the door, and the latch broke open.  The three leaped out into the hallway and onto the floor in time to see every knife in the kitchen launch at them; covering the walls in implements of death.  "Guys," said Nazz, "maybe we should go back, I don't think we're not going to find the library."  "I agree trendy Nazz girl," said Rolf, "lets go back."  In the kitchen the strange voice laughed and said, "that was too easy."

Meanwhile Jimmy, Sarah, and Johnny took the east wing, searching for the library they too found plenty of sleeping people but no luck on the library.  "This place is too big Sarah," cried Jimmy, "how are we going to find the library in this maze?"

"We'll just have to keep looking Jimmy," said Sarah, "hurry up melon head."  Johnny was looking at vase of flowers, then came running at Sarah's demand nobody noticed one of the flowers turn and follow the three down the hall.  The three found a large door at the end of the hall and Johnny said, "this looks promising."

When they opened it, they found a large glass conservatory, filled with exotic plants and flowers of every kind.  A large fountain bubbled away in the center and the sun trickled through the glass and branches of palm trees.  At the end of the fountain   was a large red flower bud, it was bigger even than Ed. "Wow," said Jimmy, "this place is beautiful, just look at all the flowers!"  Sarah giggled and danced around the fountain playing in between the rays of light coming through the trees.  "Hey guys," said Johnny, "shouldn't we be looking for the library?"  Suddenly Sarah screamed as she was lifted into the air, held by the ankle by a green vine.  "Sarah," shouted Jimmy, "hold on!"  "Plank," shouted Johnny as he too was lifted in the air, "hold on buddy!"  Jimmy looked around to see what he could do, he had to help his friends.  He found a pair of pruning shears on a gardener's bench nearby.  "Hold on guys," shouted Jimmy, "I'm coming."  The vines carried the two over the giant red bulb, with a roar it opened up showing large sharp teeth.  "It's gonna eat us," screamed Johnny.  Jimmy crawled up to the giant bulb as it lifted of the ground to reach for its meal.  With one quick movement Jimmy cut the stem of the plant, killing it instantly.

The vines released Johnny and Sarah, who fell to the floor.  "For once," said Jimmy, "its good to be small and  unassuming."  "Jimmy," cried Sarah, "thanks for saving us!"  "Lets go back to the meeting spot," said Johhny, "I've had enough of this place."  Once again the strange voice spoke after they left, "this is getting fun, what interesting people have come to visit."

"This is stupid," complained May, "why are we doing this?"  They had been searching the back end of the house, but only sleeping servants could be found.  "Its simple May," said Lee teasingly, "if we didn't help her boyfriend Marie would never let us hear the end of it."   "Shut up Lee," said Marie, "lets just keep looking."

The long hallway they were walking down was lined by windows, the curtains closed, blocking out all natural light.  A pair of large double doors caught Lee's eyes and she said, "hey, lets look through here."  They entered the room to find themselves in a large parlor, the walls were covered in mirrors and it gave the effect that the room continued on forever into the distance.  "Wow," said May, "this is cool!"  She began to admire her reflection in the mirror, making kissing faces at herself.  Lee began to adjust her hair, a curl fallen out of place.

"Guys, we should get going," said Marie, "I've got a bad feeling."  Suddenly the strange voice from the entrance hall spoke, "I've been having some fun with your friends, but you three are different from them."  "What do you know," said Marie, she hated being reminded of what happened.

"Well aren't you touchy," said the strange voice, "I think I know just how to play with you three," the voice laughed as it faded away.

The three girls felt a strange tingling in the room, they had just enough time to see their eyes turn a familiar shade of red before their reflections disappeared from the mirrors of the room.  "Whats going on," said Lee, she felt a sharp point on her tongue, she reached up to feel sharp fangs back in her mouth. "We," stammered May, "we're vampires again?!"  "We gotta get outta here," shouted Marie, "lets regroup at the meeting spot.  They bolted into the hallway outside the room, and started to run down towards the entrance hall.

Suddenly they heard a sound so simple yet it filled them with utter fear; the sound of curtains being thrown open.  They looked behind them to see the curtains opening on their own, flooding the hall with shafts of sunlight.  "Run," shouted May, they knew what would happen should they get caught in the sun.  They ran as fast as they could down the long hallway, as curtain after curtain was thrown open behind them, the hallway had become a gauntlet.  "Keep running," shouted Lee, "we gotta make it to the entrance hall!"  The sunlight was catching up to them, but they could see their goal in the distance, the door leading back to the hall.  "Its catching up," screamed May, she feared for her life now.  Lee hit the door first, throwing it open and pushing May and Marie through.  The last curtain opened just as Lee went through the door, but she didn't get away unscathed, she clutched her leg in pain at the burn she had received.  "Lee," said May, "come on, we'll go back to the group and get you fixed up.  Marie wondered what they would do know, somehow they were vampires again and this couldn't be good.

Double D, Ed, and Eddy had no idea of what was happening to the others as they searched the farthest end of the house.  "So Sockhead," said Eddy, "what do we do once we have that book."  "Well, once I take a look at the book, I might be able to find out how to break that spell," replied Double D.

They had been searching for a while, and had come across several strange rooms, but no library.  Suddenly Ed stopped, he was looking at a large pair of double doors, larger than anything they had seen so far.  "Hey guys," said Ed, "I think I found it."  The doors were made of carved wood with classical motifs of knowledge and learning.   "You know Ed," said Double D, "I have a feeling your right."  They pushed open the large doors, which wasn't even due to their size.  Inside was just the room they were searching for, the walls were lined with books, and a tall bookcases created corridors of books.  Tall windows let light flow into the room, shining off the leather of the books.  A large chandelier lit the room, its crystals long and sharp like spears of glass.   A large mantel clock sat on the fireplace ticking  time away. This room could put many public libraries to shame.

"Wow," said Double D, "look at all these books."

"Lets get to searching then," said Eddy, "the sooner we get that book, the sooner we get out of here."  "I don't think we will have to look hard Eddy," said Double D who pointed to a large old book standing on a podium in the middle of the room.

Suddenly the strange voice cut in, laughing menacingly, "you don't think it will be that easy do you?"  A rumbling filled the air as bookcases began to move and turn, the podium disappeared as bookcase after bookcase rearranged themselves, forming a maze of books with the podium at its center.  The hands of the clock spun madly until they stopped at ten minutes to twelve, almost like a timer.  "Hey," shouted Ed, "thats not fair!"  "Oh, don't worry little wolf," said the voice, "you and your friends won't find this maze so boring now."  A strange tingling filled the air, as pain began to wrack Ed and Double D's bodies.

"Whats happening," shouted Eddy, "what did you do to them!"  "I only decided to spice things up a little," said the voice indignantly, "just like I did to your other little friends."  "Oh and boys," continued the voice, "I would hurry if I were you, time is ticking."  With that the voice disappeared, leaving the boys to deal with the maze.

"Ugh," said Double D, "what was that?"  He opened his eyes, and saw Eddy with a look of horror on his face.  "Whats wrong," asked Double D who looked down to see his hands lined with fur, and sharp claws where his nails used to be.  "Oh no," shouted Double D as he ran to a nearby mirror, his reflection confirmed his fears.  Somehow he had been changed back into his hybrid form from a month ago; Double D spun around to check on Ed and was shocked to see he too had been changed.  Ed lie on the floor in full werewolf form, his eyes reflected the pain he was feeling due to the change.

"You alright Lumpy," asked Eddy, concern filling his voice.  Ed nodded and grunted his reply.  "We have to hurry and find our way through that maze," said Double D heading towards the entrance.  "Why don't we just climb the bookcases," said Eddy reaching up to climb a shelf, suddenly a tinkling sound from above drew their eyes to the chandelier.  One of the large, sharp crystals broke off and flew towards Eddy, he jumped down just in time as the crystal stabbed the shelf where his hand had been.  Eddy gulped at the thought of what might have happened.  "I don't think we can cheat," said Double D, "we have to hurry, lets go"

They entered the maze of books, trying hard to find their way as fast as possible, all the while the ticking of the clock counting the time away.  Ed, tried to help, using his superior senses to sniff out the book, but so much leather made it difficult.  "What happens if time runs out," asked Eddy cautiously.  "I don't know," said Double D, "but I doubt it will be good."  With time almost out, the Edds continued their search until finally they found the center of the maze.

"Theres the book," shouted Double D, he ran to grab the book off the podium.  Just as he grabbed the book the chiming of the clock signaled that time had run out.

"Uh oh," said Eddy, as the chandelier above them began to shudder.  Ed growled at it as it shook.   A crystal broke loose and plunged at Ed, who dodged just as it stuck into the floor.  "We have to get out of here," shouted Double D as crystal after crystal began to break free and fall at them.  Eddy dodged as best as he could only missing the deadly spear by inches.  "Lets go," said Double D, he motioned to Ed to follow him as he jumped on the tops of the bookcases.  Eddy was suddenly grabbed by Ed in his arms as they flew up to the tops of the cases.  They leaped over the tops, jumping from case to case as the crystal missiles fired at them with incredible accuracy. The three continued their dash on the bookcases as they made their way to the door.

Hurry Ed," shouted Double D as he threw the door open.  They dashed through the door, just as the last of the crystals stuck themselves in the door behind them.  "Now," sighed Double D as Eddy was set down, "we go back to the others, its going to be rough explaining this."  He looked at his reflection in the window next to him, it felt weird to be in this form again, even though it hadn't been that long since the last time.

The others had all gathered in the entrance hall as they had been told, listening to each other's stories.  Sarah was playing up Jimmy's bravery, he blushed, furiously embarrassed.  They all chattered nervously when the Kankers told their tale of near death.   They all feared the Kankers before but they were even more scary as vampires again.   Nazz was wrapping the burn on Lee's leg, she winced as the wrapping was tightened.

Suddenly they heard the sounds of footsteps coming towards them.  They all looked up, and gasped when they saw Ed and Double D.  "What happened," asked Kevin, "you guys were changed too?"  Double D looked over at Marie and saw a familiar shade of red in her eyes.  He saw the pain in her eyes, of being something she never wanted to be again.

"Double D Ed boy," shouted Rolf, "you bring the book yes?"

Double D motioned to the large book in his arms and said, "yes, now we just have to find out how to break the spell."  Double D set the book on the floor and began to thumb through the pages.  His red eyes darted back and forth, scanning the pages for something that could help.

"Hey," said Double D suddenly, "I think I found it."  They all crowded around the book, reading the spell before them.  "This says the spell is to put someone to sleep,"  said Double D, "but its only supposed to be temporary, if done with the intention of permanence, the spell will be corrupted."

"So how do you break the spell then Sockhead," asked Eddy.  Double D kept reading then shut the book suddenly.

"I know what we have to do," said Double D.  "What do we do then," asked Lee, "do we have to kiss him or something?"  Double D was just silent, he looked up the stairs into the upper parts of the house.

He stood up slowly and said, "first we need to find our sleeping friend."  He started climbing the stairs to the upper floors.  The others just looked at each other and started to follow him.  "Whats his problem," said Sarah huffing in irritation.

They started walking down a hallway together, something seemed to be drawing them in this direction.  Just then the walls around them seemed to bend and bulge, a dark aura filling the space.  Then a voice echoed down the halls, seething with hate and disdain for the group, "so, despite my little games you still managed to find the book. Well, I'll be waiting for you, I wanna see you just try and break that spell."  The voice laughed maniacally, and the hall around them seemed to twist and bend, the walls began to drip with a strange black sludge.  "Whats going on," shouted May, "is this another trap?"

"Just ignore it," said Double D, a look of seriousness on his face, "follow me and just keep walking."

Double D began to walk down the hall, a strange force pulling him through the house.  The others kept up with him, Jimmy whimpered, quietly clutching onto Sarah for support.  "This is way too creepy," said Nazz, "just look at that stuff coming out of the walls."  "I don't like this Plank," said Johnny quietly.

Double D saw a door up ahead, a strange white light came from beneath.  "I think thats our goal," said Double D, "just look at that light."  Ed, whimpered slightly, his ears pressed back on his head and his fur on end.  "Just chill out Lumpy," said Eddy, "we're almost there."  The walls around them which had been twisting grotesquely, quieted and stilled.  "Lets go in," said Kevin, "I'm tired of this freak show."

Eddy stepped forward and pushed the door open, the strange light illuminating the hall.  "I think we found it," said Eddy stepping into the large bedroom.  They gathered into the room, it was nicely furnished with a large canopy bed on in one side.  "Talk about a bedroom," said Johnny as he looked around.  "Well now," said Double D as he stepped up to the bed, the canopy swayed even though there was no breeze.

He pulled the curtain back and said, "here, is our sleeping prince."  They looked down at the figure in the bed.  His long white hair lay around him, his face a peaceful lie in a deep slumber.  He was no older than the rest of them, a strange reminder of just who they were helping. "I know he's sleeping," said Jimmy, "but it looks like he's not even breathing."  "My, this guy is cute," said Lee flashing a fanged smile, "it almost makes it worth all the trouble we've been through."

"Lets get started," said Double D, "its time to end this."
