The fire crackles between you as the eagle looks at you out of the corner of her eye. The evening is warm, the warmth of the sleeping sun still radiating from the sand beneath your feet.

"Why do you want to go there?" she asks, looking away from you, out over the sand and rock. "That place is cursed."

You take a deep breath, and begin to explain. Of the disappearances. Of the shadows, disappearing into the desert. Of the strange markings, that your people had traced back to that ancient, abandoned city, of her people, not yours.

"I see." She looks over at you again, those golden eyes of hers cold, calculating. What does she see, when she looks at you? Will she help you? Or will she be calling the warriors of her people to hound your footsteps?
