So I was discussing with some of my friends on possible alts for Vega and one of the more obvious ones was a proper ninja alt based on Geki's img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20… who was the original SF ninja, and possibly being Vega's teacher. criscura also noted it could be a starting point for him in terms of his costume before it became more flamboyant later on.

Normally, I am loath to draw Vega with mask on because come on - he's so handsome, it'd be such a waste of a pretty face (and I find it more fun to draw faces) but for the purpose of this exercise I will make an exception. So going by Geki's it should be a cloth mask, but thinking about how it generally falls off I thought it should be something more solid looking - perhaps metallic? (would protect his face better anyway) Most of his existing alts have only half masks, which I actually like because it reveals part of his face. I chose to go with showing the upper face because of his eyes which I find more expressive than the lips. The actual design of the mask went back and forth a bit after taking in critiques during the design process... eventually settling with this to be more menacing and grille like, alluding loosely to a knight's helmet (because Capcom's original design for him was supposed to be like a medieval knight) I've also incorporated his symbol as a metallic relief on the side to tie it more into his character.

Other than the mask, the rest of his costume wasn't hard to construct as there are plenty of references and his sash, gold bands and tattoo remains, again to tie in with his identity. Overall, I wanted to convey a sense of him 'melting' in and out of the shadows in keeping with the concept of being a Ninja and some details are deliberately subtle so that you really have to look to see them. His gear and colours have to be practical for that purpose - made him brunette again because of this.. though it's leaning more towards the auburn side to pick up on the red in the sash, so it's not too dark...
