The cover tells a specific scene from the book's story;
The Heroes, Donnie and Elladan (both elves), were aboard an airship belonging to the Princess Anya. It is a magically-driven ship (the glowing ring signifies this), and after a nearly fatal confrontation, eventually the captive dragons on board were released! The Heroes had to choose whether to fight dragons or flee. They chose the latter, hoping the dragons don't snatch them mid-air. The Heroes can't fly, but supposedly they have friends that do, nearby, so they didn't worry about splatting to the ground
