Taken at the Cincinnati Zoo - Cincinnati, OHAccording to African myth, 400 years ago a star fell to the earth, and from its light were born all manners of light creatures, one of which was the white lion. This was only passed down as legend until in 1975 a game ranger saw a lioness with her cubs in the Timbavati Game Reserve, two of which were pure white.
This is one of the two male white lions on display at the zoo, they are kept separate from the female lions which are out in their area on separate days. They were both very pretty cats!!
In hindsight, I should have forced a faster shutter speed (just as I have to force a slower one with my black kitty Loki), many of the photos I got were a little blown out if the sun hit them.

You're welcome... the zoo in my neck of the woods is a drive-through safari park-style place called "Wildlife Safari" (you may have heard of it), I'll have to practice shooting through glass car windows before I go down to see the animals and shoot pics.

We have a park much like that here so I know what you mean! And it is definitely a challenge--I've gotten used to shooting with one hand on the camera and the other protecting against the glare.

I did that while shooting into abandoned buildings numerous times... only a few turned out passable...

Nice shot. I like the composition. You are right, you should have used faster shutter speed so that his face would not be overexposed. But you still can rescue it in a graphic editor. You can darken the light color using curves and masking. Maybe you could add some vibrance as well because the picture seems to be quite little saturated.

Oh he's beautiful... WHY are you so lucky you get to be so close to such lovely animals. I would love to see a lion like this up close. I'd be there all day!

He was being so nice and just hanging out right there at the window and then I got to use my zoom lens to get right up and personal with him. The breeze was blowing and every time it ruffled his mane, I couldn't stop thinking about the Big Hair Band White Lightening and then I'd start giggling. LOL

So you're saying one day they put the girls on display, then the next they put the guys, right? 'Cuz I didn't get to see any boys when I as there!

Yep! I forget the actual schedule but it was something like 4 days the boys were out and three days the girls were out. It seemed like they had the male lions out something like Thurs-Sun and the girls Mon-Wed but I don't remember for sure, I'd just glanced at it and thought "Aha, I thought I remembered they had female white lions!"
