This photo is dedicated to who loves meerkats as much as I love cheetahs I dare say. When I got to this zoo, getting some wonderful photos of these enchanting creatures was second only to seeing the cheetahs just so I could share some wonderful shots with Cynthia. Having my new D700 made it easy for me to crank the ISO up to have a faster shutter speed and get some fantastic portraits. This particular meerkat just stood on this rock and posed and posed and posed for me. I got so many photos of this particular one, his head tilted up and then back and then looking down and then over his shoulder...it was amazing.

Meerkats have an exceptionally keen sense of smell, being able to smell food even burrowed deeply in the ground. With their long nails, they dig into the dirt to extract tasty and crunchy treats to enjoy as fruit of their efforts!
