Arch Rock - Mackinac Island, MIThis was taken the second day of our stay on the island it was an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking day. The waters beyond are those of Lake Huron and they were amazingly gorgeous that day!
This is probably my hands down favorite photo that I've taken out of the hundred that "made the cut" for my Picasa account. My only trick of the trade was that this was taken with a circular polarizing filter.

if you go there in winter, it's gorgeous too. the rock's covered in snow and the water if it's frozen is a deep blue and looks so jagged and dangerous, yet so beautiful... or it's all crushed up frozen ice. It's really pretty.

LOL We may have to plan a winter trip up there--I know that after a certain time the ice freezes completely over and no one gets to and from the island unless it's by snowmobile, but I'd think the snow definitely falls first before that happens. That would be a gorgeous shot I'd think!

I'll look for a picture of it, I know I've taken some... the boats run as long as they can until the straits completely freeze, normally december/january. we normally have snow now, but you can also go over there via a puddle hopper airplane from st. igance, it's very pretty. ((if I can't find a photo, I know I'll post one or two this winter.))

I'm so jealous you're so near it! This was a 7 hour drive for us but very well worth it! We're already planning another (longer!) trip out next summer.

LOL I live about 30 minutes south of Cleveland, it really wasn't too bad of a drive and it was completely worth it though I'll want to stay a couple days more next time.

Hehe, I know that area a lil actually. Traverse City is a nice...VERY nice city! You like Mackinaw, you will like Traverse City! We are also wekk known for Michael Moore (if you like him or not). He's done a LOT for our city (I am not a supporter of him but he supports our city). Moore opened up the old city theater on our front street and also started the national film festival in our home town. We also have the national cherry festival and a LOT of things to do. Not to mention we are right off lake MI. Its VERY nice town.

We're so used to Lake Erie and it's total opposite of gorgeous waters, all of us were just amazed at the color.
