Thanks  To be honest I've never tried Sai, I've been working in gimp for years, I just find it easier to work with. Thanks for such a nice comment

Hah I don't think I'm good enough to teach others yet I can tell you that I use hard, round, paint brushes for lines and shadows and soft, round brush to tidy things up and for details. I fill the sketch with the main colour, make another layer and add some basic shadows, then I make another layer with even more dark and light shadows. If it looks good I join it up and use soft brush to "tidy up" and connect stuff together. Sometimes I make additional layer and just paint on it with black and white paint, then change the setting to "soft light", smudge it a little with soft brush, so it doesn't stand out and change layer opacity. This trick will give you more depth but don't overuse it. On this one I also made another layer, on which I just highlighted some of the areas with thin white lines and I smudged it at the ends so it fades in a little. The little details and good use of light can really change a lot I honestly need to work on it too. When it comes to hair it's not really my strong side, what others have told me is to use a lot of layers, plan things first, start with basic, thick lines and bit by bit move onto the details. If you're just beginning I would avoid using smudge tool, use it only when you really need to, only on little bits and with the soft brush. That's pretty much all I can think of, some of the stuff comes from the advises people gave me at some point. Gimp is actually pretty decent, especially for being a free program. You'll probably work things out quickly. Watching people paint on youtube and looking at some of the photoshop tutorials on deviantart can be really helpful too. Are you using a graphic tablet or a mouse?

Ah thank you. I use a cheap tablet (with mouse, impossible xD) And well, now I feel dump for only using around 4 layer xD Hmmm, this all sounds aweful complicated, but I hope one day I will be amazing as ya

You're welcome. As long as is works fine, it should be ok, I'm using a cheap bamboo one. Haha I used to draw with a mouse before I got it  Wasn't too good though and it was really annoying. It's useful to have many layer, mainly because you have more control  It's really not complicated, maybe try some gimp and digital painting tutorials, that might help. I'm pretty sure you'll get it soon and thanks for a compliment but I'm really not that great. Good luck!
