demisexual is a term used for a person who does not experience sexual attraction with someone unless they form a strong emotional connection with them

Did you know that if an orca's dorsal fin is collapsed, it means the whale isn't healthy and needs medical attention? :0

aside from health issues, dorsal fins can collapse due to many reasons. there's water temperature, for instance, and water pressure atrophy. it has also a lot to do with genetics [think of hair loss, for example, if a man is prone to balding early, chances are his descendants will have the same problem], stress levels, and lower hydration levels [orcas that spend too much time out of the water, for example, captive killer whales like Tilikum or Kshamenk]

the reason behind vinny's dorsal fin collapse is that he hasn't spend any time at all underwater, his family is much more "domesticated" than other orcas (unlike colonel , who looks wild in comparison since he's got claws and is more aerodynamic, coming from a family that spent a lot of time underwater). vinny doesn't even know how to swim! so gravity would eventually take a toll on the boneless fin and flop it over.

Ooooh okay!
I see now :0

I always just thought it was health reasons because of what I read from an article over Sea world's orca and dolphin abuse. All the orcas they have or had, had the collapsed dorsal.

that is true, almost 100% of the captive orcas have the collapsed fin, but there are a LOT of things to take into account. not every male orca in captivity has it (for example, trua, but his fin is uncharacteristically small for a male either way), and a lot of the males who have it are Tilikum's offspring. so they bear the collapse in their genetics to begin with.

it's a very controversial matter, in which seaworld lies in their favor by claiming it's common in the wild, and anticap activists blurt out baseless conjecture just to have more reasons to hate on captivity. the truth is, there isn't a lot of research on the matter, and the little research that there is is affected by scientific bias and lack of hormonal and genetic analysis.

I've never once been to Sea world, mostly because of the things I hear about it and I felt obligated not to ever go. Same way with circuses with tigers and/or lions.

But that really is a lot to think about, all I hope is that in the end that the species is being saved and protected. Orcas are one of the very few large marine animals that don't scare me (I'm scared of the ocean in general), they are just so beautiful.
