Description Man I've held this back too long, I just couldn't be bothered doing a write up :/

Summary:  Earthquake in China, 2015, causes huge damage to the Three Gorges Dam.  The PRC did have preperations in place for this but being China they had barely started mobilising by time the irradiated floodwater started hitting the major cities along the Yangtze.  The Chinese economy virtually collapsed overnight, which of course would have crippled the global economy if it weren't were some serious efforts on the part of businesses to relocate their main manufacturing centres to the Third World.  Africa, Central Asia and Indonesia, as well as large parts of South America and India were able to fill the gap left by China within a few years, but only barely.  Eventually as the unrest led to Civil War, which then began to spill over into Southern and Central Asia, a truly global effort was undertaken to stabilize mainland China once and for all.  Of course America/NATO and the Eurasian Union (Russia writ neo-Imperial) had very different ideas about what the new China should look like.  The effort was over-budget and came no where near the UNs stated objective, instead the various Security Council Mandates were herded into a "confederation" and left to try and solve their differences without using the weaponry the various military's had "forgotten" to take home.  The seed's were planted, everything was going to change.

Skip forward aaaaaand... the world has pretty much spent the past 200 years shitting itself, so no change from the past 5,000 years then.  North America began to get restless in the 2040's as much of the world was going tits up around them.  Economy on life support, large army with nothing to do but dream of past "glories", some stupid thing about states rights the Republicans forced through in 2017 left the federal government as neutered as ever before, and don't get me started on that partisan politics bullshit.  There was a failed coup d'etat in '49 and a Civil War the following year.  By the end of it everyone was left too exhausted that there was no one left to try and reassert a united government.  Eventually various statelets would come together out the need for mutual assistance in reconstruction, in the more remote places have-a-go Warlords outright conquered their neighbours.  Things have changed drastically too.  Take California for instance.  Their breakway was relatively bloodless aside from a Nevada militia shooting up Carson City in an attempt to assert their independence.  They were immediately hailed as the future of America, a liberal, prosperous, multi-cultural land where all would be welcome from the chaos of the world.  Now they're a nasty military dictatorship with a neautralised elected chamber that picks the name of who they're going to hate this month out of hat.  They been fighting their neighbours for years and have recently just had their backsides handed to them by the Tex-Mex alliance in a decent sized fight over Mexican SoCal.  And speaking of Texas, no longer are they the American equivalent of Saudi Arabia, after the oil ran out and they had begun to lose land to desertification they managed to get back on track with a little Mexican help, and it's honestly helped them out quite a lot.  They're generally rather nice guys these days, hell they've even started to replace Mexico as the senior figure in the alliance.

Yup, things change alright.  Also that brown state in Canada is an Native American nation.  During the collapse most of them left the reservations and reserves to try and scrape a living out of the ghost towns.  But when the American MidWest stabilised, united, and began to push north a generation later the fighting was bloody.  Now they're scrapping a living in the Canadian far north (since none of the new powers are concerned about Tundra slipping back into an Ice Age), finishing off the old strip mines and trading with anyone who's not being paid by an White guy to ignore them.  They are incredibly bitter and you would not believe the land they're claiming.

Europe is a weird one too, but then Europe has been weird about war for a while now.  The whole EU debate (aka "leave us along to hate non-whites and ruin our own economies please!") rumbled on dangerously, but there was never really any actual change.  Neo-Nazi's would kill immigrants and white people and take pictures in front of inaccurate/illegal WW2 German flags, British/French/German Muslims would go on holiday to the latest Islamic warzone and come back with dreams of blowing up breweries and sausage factories (or whatever it is they do out there).  Shit got tighter than Jennifer Lawrence's butthole.  But hark, a crisis!  This one started by my favourite dirty hippie, Charles Windsor.  He was a controversial ruler after his mothers death, mainly because British people don't understand how a monarchy works (it doesn't matter that you don't like him people, he's your King!), and also because of his just plain unusual behaviour.  The example in question however was his refusing to sign a controversial bill concerning privacy rights into law.  Now this shouldn't have been a real issue but things had been a little tense since Scottish independence the year before, also the English media is great and turning nothing into something, and they ran over hill and glen with this story.  Within a month their were protests, riots.  A self-proclaimed "Islamist" group shot a police officer in London and everything went to shit after that.

Inspired by the British "example" similar protests against all manner of issues sprung up across Europe.  From immigration to the economy to pensions, everything was hot.  The British Civil War got into full swing after London was placed under martial law following an attempted rocket attack on the House of Commons, even Charles' plea's couldn't stop anything, everything was just too out of hand.  Shooting started in 2022 following a split in Parliament and the armed forces.  The Scottish Defence Force marched south to assist the Loyalist forces.  A new Republican movement formed by a Sinn Fein splinter group emerged in Northern Ireland after the Unionists forcefully took over Stormont, Ireland was nearly dragged into the war when they fired on an oil tanker commandeered by Parliamentarians.  It didn't take long before the whole continent was fucked with every side splintering every which way they possibly could.  fracturing, forming new coalitions that fell apart themselves.  By the end only group stood a fighting chance, a rag-tag band of assholes from a broadly "left wing" perspective.  Commies, Anarchies, Hacker cliques and the Occupy wannabe leftovers.  Usual sort of trench coat mafia twats.

There vision for the future was... bold, yes bold is the word for it.  Not inspiring, or intelligent, reasonable or likely, but it was bold.  They believed that someday the entire world would be run with no human intervention whatsoever, by a system of  Quantum computers that communicated with all people through nano-bots they received at birth.  Like I said, pretty bold.

You see whilst the Left-wingers, migrant defence militias and liberal nationalists possessed the firepower of their movement it was the Hackers who were the real strength.  Since the early days of the European Catastrophe they had been stealing government and military documents.  Swedish students released French and Spanish military documents detailing detained personnel, Germans released "banned" footage of Italian police officers water boarding suspected bombers.  As the lines began to become clearer and the sides were formed these individuals tended to join together rather than be absorbed as assets to the more conventional movements, "fighting" for their anonymity and the freedom of information that they thought was so important, generally making everyone's day pretty horrendous.  By the end of the fighting though most of them had decided that the "True Left" were the strongest candidates to help them fulfill their dreams.

The computer system is doing okay.  Really okay actually, it took 12 years to get the first "Town Planning and Organisation Module" up and running in Strasbourg, and they tend to get a little confused when they encounter something unfamiliar but other than that the continents economy hasn't been as strong as this in decades, however the no humans thing didn't quite work.  In fact if the people weren't kept completely ignorant of their political realities through waves of artificial endorphin's and a high (but boring) living standard, then they would realise that the Programmers are the ones pulling the strings.  Now they do have the people's best interests at heart, they really do, but there are nearly 2,000 of them running the lives of 650 million people so disagreements tend to come up, and when that happens then the droids are called up into service.  And then there's those ones who consider themselves "anarchists" (like they even know what the word means), when they get angry people died in their thousands, giving egotistic sociopaths control over the minds of entire cities of people is a really bad idea in hindsight...

However as is often the case with history, the extremities were never completely up to speed with the rest of the continent, though in this case that was probably a good idea.  Whilst the monotone (but extremely clean) Intelligent City Federation ground humanity into the future everyone else took the opportunity to let their historical guts hang out.  With the New Cold War over the corpse of the People's Republic, a second front in opening in Africa due to the "Can I endorse genocide to open up a shoe factory?" question, the EU virtually collapsed into complete chaos , and numerous discontented rumbles from every manner of polity, no one was giving a rats fart about Bulgaria, or Finland, or Spain for that matter.  There have been countless petty wars, supernational unions, alliances, colaitions, that was of course until the Matrix-Lite decided that they needed stable borders and sent the drones into the Balkans in 2062.

Rodina Mat has also had a tough time, but in a different way to their pussy cousins in the West.  Question.  What is the one thing that has stopped Russia from having the political atmosphere of an abattoir since the fall of Communism?  Answer, Mr Vladimir Putin.  Now ou can say what you like about then mans politics, respect for democracy and human life in general but he did manage to fill in a hole.  Mostly with dead bodies and "spoiled" ballots, but you can't say it hasn't been filled!  The Eurasian Union, Putin's neo-Imperial pet project to annex Belarus and much of Central Asia into an confederation with Russia took off in 2015, and

Someone remind me to finish this later damnit!

So I take it that you aren't going to continue this? :/

I also suspect that European Russia-Russia has it's own Tsar from a house whose name is a mutated version of "Putin," but I could be wrong.

A full continuation is very unlikely, however I will definitely be taking a few ideas from this to use in future projects.

Very nice. Looking forward to the rest of the writeup. What goes on in Manchuria?

(BTW, has climate change led to a wetter Sahara? Because a lot of those wee states would seem to be running on a sand-based economy... )

That's AmongTheSatanics descendants, based off the apocalypse TL she's currently working on. I got a cameo in that so she's got one in this. Realistically its based off Vladivostok working out an alliance with Russian forces abandoned in Manchuria in the post-Putin collapse.

And yes the Sahara is wetter, the terraforming was one of the last successful things the UN started before the world went to hell. Lots of Asian and European descendants live there, which helped the development a lot.

I'm meaning to add their description.  A "Turkish" Union in essence.  For a long summary, Putin tries to make himself to moderate Muslims what Lloyd George was to Jews in 1918.  The best friend they ever had.  He supports Syria, Iran, Palestine etc.  When the Eurasian Union comes along he sticks a bunch of funding into the development of the Central Asian members.  He even helped Manchuria and East Turkestan assert their independence after the Chinese collapse in 2016.  But when the Second Russian Civil War struck in 2022 (after his death) the Central Asian states stayed out of it, though they "convinced" Russian migrants to leave.  By the end you had Kazakhstan as far more developed then the rest of its neighbours.

They convinced everyone else to enter into an economic union that over 200 years has developed into a mega-power with little to no incentive to intervene beyond her own borders.  The "Central Asian/Turkish Union" has united most of it's peoples under one flag, their country is prosperous, developed, forward thinking, though stagnating jut slightly.  Essentially they are the nearest thing to a super power in this world, just they really can't be bothered fighting anyone.

They're going to be coming to blows with the Green Chinese state soon.

Ahh thanks for the info .

So what exactly happened with Scotland, a yes vote or was it a no vote and then the nationalist forced it to part ways ?

Yes vote, that's slight wish fulfillment there.  However they kept the monarch, and deiced to intervene in the "British" Civil War.

After Europe came under the Trench Coat Mafia control Britain always stayed very outside of the central authority.  Eventually Ireland (no civil war but the rebels in NI took control down south as well as in the north and got unification) made it's way into the position of close ally/strong arm with the Europeans.  After a few decades they made a claim to Scotland based of some bullshit deal made between Ireland and Scotland after Scottish independence.

Also they're occupying northern England, hired out by the Europeans who are too busy bickering amongst themselves.

Also, meself was involved in this republican movement in Ireland and I eventually wind up in high authority.  One of my great-great-grandkids is a high-up in Irish government in this TL.

It's always fun to do for future projects.  My own timeline has me spend a while working as a junior civil servant/double agent for the republicans before making a break for it and becoming an intelligence officer during the fighting.  I get sent as a "volunteer" to help the Europeans and later the Scots as their civil wars are winding down, however it's tricky getting back in due to political infighting.  When I return home I join an "Old Guard" clique that loses a power bid, in which case I go into exile for a while, travelling into the other European periphery areas like Iberia and Scandinavia, a brief foray into arms dealing and stuff like that.  By the end of it I get invited back home to help out in another coup d'etat which succeeds and I spend most of my time after that as a senior member in a ruling troika.

AmongTheSatanic has a cameo in here as well, her descendants rule that aggressive looking state in eastern Siberia/Manchuria.

Well you've given me more than enough.  Also it's fun to get the Russians going around in my TLs.  Like my current one has exiled German Protestants being offered a safe haven in mostly neutral Ireland, they end up setting up little trading towns on the West Coast, which helps Catholic England really expand their influence in America, with the help of lots of Irish and Scottish migrants.  Since you've got ancestors from Germania I could add you in as some corrupt port manager.  I've already written myself into rather a Metropolitan Belfast in my position as a Scots-Irishman and Catholic.

Well so long as they were still in either Germany or the Baltic coast in the 1400s.

My ancestors shall look forward to meeting yours and discussing mutually lucrative trade oppertunities.

Also your ancestors will be Irish in this scenario, or Irish-American if they emigrate.
