Well here was my entry into Udon's Street Fighter contest*UdonCrewUdon Entertainment . Udon is a great company and does Streetfight extreme credit with it's books, so I was doubly thankful they would allow us in DA land to take a stab at there co-creations. Over 1300 entries is a great sign and love of the game.
I have always like Streetfighter, not just the game but the comics and anime that followed. I guess I always had a soft spot for the unique characters they had for the series. My entry had my two favorite: Garuda and Chun-Li. I always like Garuda's look a combo of Kendo and Samurai armor, true villain seeking nothing but raw power. Also, the lovely Chun-Li commanding yet accessable...She was the only one I could ever do all her combo moves with
. Also, the background is from one of the fight stages in the game just so you knowAnyway, I really work hard on this one. I spent most of my free time (with everything going on that's about zip it seems) on it. I feel it's my strongest to date. I tried to work hard on the anatomy, however I might have made Chun-Li's legs a bit to defined. Special credit to Crash ~Crash2014 for giving me points and helping getting things right (thank you brother), and my fiancee, Melsie, in advising me on the background (tone it down!). I feel I advanced a bit with this one. I knew at the very start I would not win as it, was not to be in color and with all the entries I would be far better given the talent roster. The rules said not to post until notified and, well, I lost so I get to post
So tell me what you think! I think I will use the tone difference in future pics. with all my background detail until I can balance them properly. So let me know folks. I really thank you all for your kind words and support, without them I would never have attempted this or drove so hard back into my art. For that You ALL have my eternal thanks.

I think the anatomy is good on Chunners, but I would tone her a bit less. Less is best I was always told.
But this is quite a lovely sketch. I just feel rather sad Chun is about to be beheaded. T.T

I just find Chun-li getting too close to a blade rather scary. Even if she faught many bladed foes (Vega, Sodom...Rolento).
But I'm glad that my criticism didnt make you feel bad or anything. I look at it more of a way to improve your work for future sketchs and such. ^^

How did I miss this one? This looks awesome. I'm unfamilar with a lot of the Street Fighter characters, so I have no idea who Garuda is. Never the less, you did an awesome Street Fighter pic.

It's a shame that this entry would be largely overlooked simply because it was not a colour submission. Especially since it's a superb recreation of those extraordinary pugilists from the Street Fighter universe. I only played SF 2 when it was introduced to the Super Nintendo back in the early nineties, all the various incarnations of the game that eventually followed escaped me, because I had tired of the beat em up formula. Too many intricate button combos for my delicate digits.
I love how you have portrayed drama in this SF saga, poor Chun Li looks defeated as Garuda stands ready to apply the finishing blow as he bristles with power.
The background is sensitively rendered and therefore wonderfully composed. I also like how you have a distinct depth of tone on the background layers, the further you see the softer the depth. A neat trick, which properly implies distance.
As usual your detailing is excellent, perhaps a tad over defined on Chun Li's legs (something you did mention), the definition of muscle feels very similar to Garuda's puffy pants.

Thanks for your kind words again. Udon did mention pencil and Greyscale images where accepted, which is good that they where looking at different forms of art. It did help me grow in making the backgrounds become less overpowering. I too had trouble remembering the combos as well...trying to remember and decipher the combat combo was like trying to decipher hieroglyphics on the fly. Something else I can't do with out a cheat guide

I remember the game well, Zangief was is my favourite character if I was using a joystick otherwise it was the usual cast of Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Guile, Sagat & M Bison (Vega in Japan).
I do agree with you that you made her legs a bit too defined, but you could have cover some of it by shading because she wore stockings which made legs look really tanned, I also agree with JonKin that you made her look like caucasian instead of asian other than that this is an awesome pic.

Thanks for the comments. I originally wanted to try an color the pick and thought I could have covered up the leg definition with color but no such luck. As for the eyes, This was my first attempt to make Anime type eyes...but have her look defeated...I should have made them more slanted than they are, humm, perhaps I'll fix it.

This is very cool, as loztheworm stated. I like the different levels you gave to the background. Your fiancee was right! I'm sorry you did not win. The only thing I have an issue with is Chun-li's face. While drawn well, she looks more caucasian instend of Asian. Beyond that, this is an awesome pic.
