I've missed seeing your work! Do you happen to have a blog aside from dA?! I'm surprised I havn't seen any Korra art from you in celebration of the new season!

I'm afraid I don't have another posting place- if I post; it'll be here!  I admit, rather sadly, that I became pretty disenchanted with Korra last season, and I haven't really been inspired by it in a fanart sense since

Yeah, I can understand why!  I'm really just in it for the characters n' stuff, just not going in with high expectations.

Well hope you are keeping well (and busy)!

I'm gonna take an educated guess and assume 'just till next sex scene' refers to an HBO show (most likely GoT ?).

Haha actually, not this time!  (I actually have a real problem with the sex in Game of Thrones- one of the big reasons I stopped watching the show, actually.  But that's neither here nor there)

No actually it was after Gillian Anderson in The Fall walked up to a hunky younger police guy and was like "hey. I'm staying in this hotel. room # whatever." and then walked away.  It was so fucking boss hahaha but it only happened once.  I went to bed unfulfilled haha

Oh that's too bad, there are fewer sex scenes in the 2nd and 3rd seasons if that changes anything. I personally enjoy the show very much, and I even like some things better in the show than in the books (yeah, I know, blasphemy !!). But well.

I'd never heard of The Fall, probably because it's not out in France yet (it doesn't even have a wikipedia FR page !). I might look into it now hehe.

Yeah, I've seen most of it, but I probably won't keep going.  It's not that I don't like the sex, obviously I do, I just feel like they overuse and misuse sexuality when there are subtly story choices that could be made, you know?  Like, not EVERYTHING is about sex.  But that's just one aspect really I just don't like the show haha

Yeah The Fall is pretty recent, and pretty amazing.  Just to stay within the subject here- the way it handles female sexuality is pretty f'ing groundbreaking for crime drama.  Really genuine investigation of how we (the audience, and as a culture) think about women's sexuality, and how much objectification and one-sided sexuality we've become desensitized to in crime drama, without ever examining the other side of it.

I don't know how this turned into like a "sex on TV" symposium haha but I could go on forever about this shit.

Yes I agree that some scenes are quite unnecessary (like the ""lesbian"" prostitutes scene with Littlefinger's monologue in S1, and more recently the Melisandre/Gendry thing, which was plain weird and uncomfortable). They could have introduced some more characters instead (but this I get is difficult because of casting costs) or just gone into further detail regarding some existing sub-plots or something (it's not like the books lack subplots to explore). On the other hand they cut some sex from the books too, but yeah, not enough that it restores the balance.

All of this sounds pretty good to me ! I don't think I've ever seen a show that comes close to what you described here in terms of treatment of female sexuality. The only example that comes to mind is June Stahl from Sons of Anarchy, she's pretty good at turning gender roles around - though she's not a role model by any means (also, Sons of Anarchy is not exactly feminist, though it has some good female characters).

But as you said, we're so used to seeing women's sexuality on TV (and in all media actually) being reduced to showing some pretty skin that most of the time we don't even notice it anymore, and anytime any scene in any show goes the slightest bit further than that, I'm glad .

The display of skin doesn't bother me in itself, it's just that it's so gratuitous and one-sided most of the time...

(Sorry about the wall of text ! It's an interesting topic so I just can't stop)
