Description Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I have been completely obsessed with this movie since the trailer was released EONS ago, but because of my untimely stay in Rome, I wasn't around when it was released and by the time I got back, it was already out of theatres. I got the art of book and listened to the soundtrack to exhaustion (OBSCENELY good by the way) but was denied the joy of the movie itself. Well, it came out on DVD last week and last night, I saw How To Train Your Dragon for the very first time.
my heart is so full of love.

So it was good when Hiccup didn't die, but, I mean, the dude lost a leg, on a faraway island. It must have been tense there for a while. And also I have an INTENSE DRAMA fetish.

Brush and ink, watercolor bg, and photoshop colors.

OhmyasdfgGod, I love you. So much. You captured a very tense, very real moment of the movie, and it looks amazing.

I actually got spoiled of this bit JUST BEFORE I saw the movie. I wanted to punch my eyes in for seeing it and punch the author of the offending picture.

I love you for making this a painful scene.
I'm so envious of your ability to capture movement and emotion, it's a beautiful picture and since I favorited it now I can explore your other works as well!

I almost didn't notice the traditional background! You make digital and traditional art mesh quite nicely here.

I like how there's such a sense of urgency against all the blues. Very cool.

I might have too try more of this brush thing...
Also, I like your brushwork... even though I do feel I'm being slightly redundant.

You'r love for drama realy shows itself in their faces I think, especially Astrid. I loved this movie too. Toothless and Hiccup's relationship was epic, and just how much Toothless' behaviour and body movements reminded me of my cat and dog was a real kicker for me.

This is wonderful. I love the emotion captured in this piece and you totally inspired me to update one of my HTTYD fics that was pretty much dead in the water, so thanks.

Good job, it really captures the emotion that would have been there. one nitpicky little complaint though. i'm pretty sure Hiccup didn't lose that much leg, i believe he still had his knee, but then again i still haven't bought the movie,(i'm going to when i get actual money to do so) and i only saw it once, so i could be wrong.

yeeeeah I know you're totally right. It was just a question of fitting the information I wanted in this piece- content over correctness. But you're right.
Thanks!

oh, okay!!! i understand, actually it was a good idea, it is far more effective to actually see the missing leg than to not see it.

This is an intense peice...It almost moves. Astrid looking like sh;es about to cry and Hiccup, I can almost hear him gasping in pain.

You know, I like that they didn't do a full-on Disney Death cop-out. Instead of 'THEY THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD BUT NOW HE'S JUST FINE!' they did 'THEY THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD BUT HE JUST LOST HALF HIS LEG AND WILL BE PERMANENTLY SEMI-CRIPPLED.'

Takes a lot of the cheapness out of that trick.

...And now he matches Toothless. Kinda poetic.

I love the little details here. The way Astrid's hair has gone all awry and the shadows under her eyes, the way the Nadder's tail matches the curve of its rider's braid and makes them seem to be acting as one, the way her fingers sink into the fur of Hiccup's vest. Beautiful and urgent and sad.

I don't mean to sound morbid, but it's good that he lost a leg. It just shows that they're making it realistic.
At least they didn't make it that he defeated this humongous dragon and got out of it with just a bruised rib and some scratches.
It's absolutely beautiful by the way I love your art.
