Description This is my entry for 's "Plush Yourself" Contest, which is all about creating a plush (or a sculpture of some sort) that represents you in some way.

The reason I chose to create a pair of hands is because all my hobbies (such as writing, drawing, painting, playing musical instruments) include the use of my hands; I also like making things, so I guess in a way my hands are sort of important to me

In a weird way the materials are a little significant - they're mostly wood and as everyone knows wood comes from trees, and trees are part of nature and I like nature and at times my beliefs do verge on being a little hippy-ish

Materials used: MDF, Pine, Bamboo

That's quite amazing, I can't stop staring at the fingers.. (Then again I always like looking at people's hands.. )

Were the pieces glued, or did you have to use nails and stuff?

Thanks

The individual pieces were glued together using a glue-gun (it basically heats the glue up so it's applied in a sort of liquid-like form), I burnt my own hands so many times

Thank you Usually I'm terrible with photographing compositions (about 90% of the time they always come out over-exposed), but I'm pretty happy (and surprised) with how these turned out.

These are really neat! What's MDF?

Thank you

MDF is an abbreviation of Medium-Density Fibreboard, which is a little bit like 'man-made wood' - it's produced with wood fibers, resin, and wax, which (I think) are binded together under a lot of heat and pressure. Although its derived from wood, mdf isn't naturally occuring - I guess one way of thinking about it is comparing it to a metallic alloy. It's a lot easier to use than some types of wood because it's easier to cut, plus it's cheaper.

Thank you for your reply! It's very interesting, and I can understand why it's cheaper: I'm betting it's made from sawdust plus the other things you mentioned.

Yeah, I imagine it is - when you cut mdf it always results in a lot of sawdust, more so than a lot other types of wood, so I'm guessing sawdust is probably used in it too.
